Montana's stadium is sweet!
I wonder why they aren't FBS but schools like Tulane or Ga State who get 150 people to their games are.

Money...they don't bring eyes or money to a conference.

Because, honestly nobody wants to go watch their team be a sacrificial lamb to the big boys and then play in the sunbelt and hope for some belk.com bowl.
it's far more excitign for their fans to see them compete against guys in their own talent level and actually play for a national championship through a playoff.
I feel like teams like Tulane or even Wyoming would be much better served not to be FBS. Tulane could possibly be a powerhouse with LA talent. They would definitely sell a lot of tix if they won.
Hell, Marshall's fans used to see them compete for Natty's. Now they get to watch them in a cripple fight to see which MAC team has the best 7-5 record to go play a shitty bowl game.

As a WVU fan, this made me
You make a good point, but since things are the way they are, I think Montana could do pretty well in the MWC.

I think they would fit perfectly in the MWC. Their fanbase is probably the size of the Sun Belt conference combined. They have a whole state behind them.

Would love to go to a big time 1-AA game. I'm sure the atmosphere is fantastic

Nah. They would be like Wyoming in the MWC. Wyoming would be a FCS power.

Half a state. The other half is Montana State fans, and they've been the better team for about 2 years now.

I was under the impression that Wyoming was solid in the MWC. Don't they usually make a bowl?

Cost benefit analysis says its more profitable to be big fish in small pond.

Just out of curiosity, do any of you know any obvious differences between the two universities and their fans and alumni? How are the two fans alike and different? How is Missoula compared to Bozeman? How are the universities alike and different?
Just a basic example...Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Ole Miss is located in quaint Oxford, Mississippi. It's a well established literary school (Faulkner) and a lot of the students pursue degrees in law, medicine, business and so forth. The school is "hoity toity" with The Grove and the students and fans really dress up for games. The town is known for a thriving food scene and has decent music for such a small college town.
Compare that to Mississippi State...located in rural Starkville, Mississippi. Students pursue degrees in engineering and the agricultural field. They are a little more "country" compared to Ole Miss.
You can do the same for Oregon and Oregon State, Texas and Texas A&M, etc.
