You are better than this analogy. That sounds like something Jane Fonda or Joe Biden would say.

See my first post. I wouldn't take that shot.

Well that's like, your opinion, man.

Pretty amazing that the kids arrow passed through the first deer at all since i can't imagine the kid having a draw weight over 30-35 lbs.

I believe in the video comments his father posted 40 or 45 lb. draw weight.

Properly tuned with a sharp set of blades - it don't take much. Especially the properly tuned part. I can watch my arrow sink deeper and deeper into my block as I get the tuning finer.

Uncle Ted's draw weight is 48 lbs. on one of his bows that he hunts with regularly on SOTW... but that's a topic for another thread.

That's no bueno. Do you dare enter crossbow territory?

I'm happy as hell for the kid. I'm sure his dad is proud. An although I dislike the shot and think the dad should have taught the kid to be patient for a better shot, I can't really fault him. I know in my excitement I've taken some shots that I regretted immediately after pulling the trigger. You live and you learn, and I hope the kid learns from it and doesn't do it again. Excitement makes us do stuff that we know better than to do sometimes, but we hunt for that pleasure and excitement. The day I no longer feel that rush and excitement, I'll put my gun and bow up for good. At that point its killing just for the sake of killing and no longer a sport.

Would probably buy a mouth release before a crossgun.

i agree 100%..
he was more worried about the camera shot than the deer getting wounded.

I agree a grown man shouldn't do it. A kid shouldn't do it either, but I'm not faulting the father or the boy for it. It happened, hopefully they learned something from it.

the only deer I have killed with a bow came in a situation like this. 3 does pretty much lined up right with my shot. I waited until one was clear and nailed my 38 yard shot

I can get behind this. It's not my place to judge them, I just wouldn't do it.

but I'm not faulting the father

i was about to post something similar.
that is a great point.

We don't know the whole context. The boy may have been upset all night about it and the father was just trying to keep his spirit from being broken.
In my opinion, we all have a limited time to spend with our children before they are grown. Sure, ethical decisions are something they need to learn, but beating up on a kid because of something like this would not be the way I would have approached it.

great way to teach when not to shoot
The kid may have drawn back on 4 deer that year, spooking them or missing. We don't know. Yes the deer were bunched up, but to say the father knew the boy would shoot 2 deer in one shot would be a stretch.
I said I wasn't faulting the father for the way he handled it. I think we can agree the father should have taught the boy not to shoot one like that, but to say none of us have made a mistake during the excitement of a hunt would be a stretch.

I can think of 1,000 different outcomes that I would consider worse than this.

quote:That's the whole point. You can't know. You do know what's possible. That wasn't a close call. The deer were right on one another. No way you make a great shot on #1 with at least a great chance of hitting #2.
Yes the deer were bunched up, but to say the father knew the boy would shoot 2 deer in one shot would be a stretch.
I generally just don't agree with the rest.
