Ya we had some good matchups in the mid to late 90's...we had your number then, but it appears you've turned the tables the last couple of years

What about the others - Gabbert, Ponder, or Locker? Is Ponder a better Locker than Locker?

Racist people would take the two white QBs over the physically more gifted Kap.

Rg will never be an above average qb without his legs to bail him out.

Saturday evening, I would have graded it like this:
Luck
RGIII
Wilson
Kaep
I see no reason to change that after one game in the first week of the NFL season.
I'd also like to point out that if I have Luck at 100/100, then I've got Kaep at like 93/100. Those four are that ridiculously good.
For scale, I've got Gabbert at a 2/100 and Matty Ice at a 7/100.

RG III with a bum wheel isn't the same player.
Luck is amazing on a pretty below avg offensive roster and had huge stability issues from a team standpoint , which makes what he has accomplished all the more impressive.
Wilson is the Doug flutie of our generation and as far as I'm concerned can GFH.

I'd take Brees this year and maybe next year. At year three, Kaepernick's potential is worth more than an ageing 37 years old Brees.
Five years...
I mean, does Peyton Manning look like he can't still ball out? There's no reason for me to believe that Brees can't play at a high level for 5 more years. Favre had his best season at 40 years old. Brees takes care of himself, and he is rarely taking hits.

Lol at this thread.
Are people actually saying Kaep is a "far superior athlete" to RG3? You people do know RG3 is essentially an Olympian hurdler right?
Lol, you don't think Kaep is doing just a couple things in San Fran that Luck isn't doing?
Other than because he's white, why in the world would you think this?

Luck is doing things in the Colts offense that Kaepernick likely wouldn't. That is my point. Where as Luck would be just as productive, if not more productive, than Kaepernick if he were on the 49ers.

Add to the discussion then. Who would you take out of the young quarterbacks?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with anything I said.

If RG3 stays healthy (which is a big if), Kaep will be watching RG3 give his Hall of Fame speech in Canton from the stands. The Kaep love is infrickingsane.

I wasn't necessarily talking to you but the poster who called Luck the most accurate and aware when he had BY FAR the most INTs by any of the rookie QBs AND the most dropped INTs by any QB in the league last year.
Kaep and RG3 (when healthy) are significantly more accurate than Luck. Hell I'd argue Wilson is the most accurate of all of them. You want Luck for his brain. Outside of that, the others are superior physically (minus Wilson but solely because of his height).
It reminds me of Steve Young early in his career. He ran around like a chick on speed early in his career. Everyone thought he was nothing but a fad who would fade or get injured. Instead, he refined his game, developed more of a passing game while maintaining his athleticism and the ability to pickup cheap first downs when he needed it.
All of these guys are far superior athletes to Young and significantly more developed passers at this point in their careers compared to him. Add in the development of the spread attacks with the way they better utilize a QB's athleticism, and I'm not sure how you could NOT chose the mobile QBs over Luck. The only advantage Luck have, IMO, is a decrease in injury concerns.
If I rank who I'd want it'd be:
1. Preinjury RG3 - People forget just how good he was, no clue if we'll ever see it again though
2. Kaepernick - Probably the safest bet for success given his coach and surrounding talent on team
3. Wilson - The overlooked stud, when he's on no one is better
4. Luck - Stud QB who just doesn't have the added dimension the others do
Posted on 9/10/13 at 7:57 pm to FootballNostradamus
And my ranking would be completely opposite.
My argument for Luck being the best of the group.
- He has ZERO running game, unlike the other 3
- He has much more responsibility than the others
- He's much more athletic than you are giving him credit for. The dude is actually pretty damn fast. He can run when he needs to.
- His defense is very sub par, especially compared to what Kaepernick and Wilson have.
- Despite being on a very mediocre team, he wins games, and it's ALWAYS all on him. He led a shitty team to the playoffs, without help.
I honestly think if you throw him on the Seattle team, and especially San Francisco, his numbers would be outstanding, and absolutely more efficient. I cannot say the same for the others with confidence if they were playing for the Colts. You mention him missing the dimension the others have, but I don't understand it. No, he's not as fast, but he is very gifted with his legs. He had 255 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns last season. Just in the opening game this season he had 38 on 6 attempts and a rushing TD. He also completed 78% of his passes, showing his accuracy has improved, for two TD passes.
The reason he had so many interceptions last season was because he had no help. He had to throw the ball a shitload. The other rookies, along with Kaepernick, didn't have to carry a team near as much as he did last season. Not even close.
The kid is an absolute stud.

No way Wilson should be above Luck based on what we have seen so far. Wilson only had to throw the ball like 20 times a game last year. Coco is right that Luck would thrive on any top team but we really have no idea how the other QBs would be on The Colts.

Believe it or not I agree with you on the Luck comparison.
However if given the chance to take either Luck or Kap right now for my team....I'd take Kap in a second. He fits our style.
Luck would absolutely be prolific with SF but our offense would lose a huge dimension with the diminished QB run threat.

Nothing against wanting Kaep. I was trolling you guys on a lot of stuff, but he is very talented. He's obviously having tons of success. Having Harbaugh coach him up is doing wonders as well. Would be scary as hell to see Harbaugh and Luck reunited though.

Ummm, what? I adore Young, but if you think Kaep and RG3 wouldn't slaughter him in every single measureable athletic metric you're crazy. Wilson would be close, but I'd give him the edge. He's got a much stronger arm and is quicker.

No offense, but this woe is me nonsense about Luck is getting ridiculous. Outside of San Fran, yal act like RG3 and Wilson went to the Patriots and the Packers.
Sure the Colts were the worst team, but they'd also lost one of the best QBs in the game. That team was simply the product of no QB. Also, they've surrounded Luck with a TON of weapons. Sure their defense might not be great, but their skill players, especially on the outside, are very legit.

How many times do I have to reiterate this. All the Luck people hang on this "ZERO run game" crap like a crutch. How much running game does Tom Brady have? Aaron Rodgers? Drew Brees? When you structure your team as a spread passing attack, your run game will always suffer.
People aren't giving Kaep, RG3, and Wilson the credit for the effect their athleticism and the system they incorporate has on the running. Those 3 teams will ALWAYS have a better rushing attack than the Colts. I'll make any bet you want that regardless of who the Colts, Seahawks, Redskins, and 49ers draft, the later 3 will always have a better running attack as long as they incorporate the read option into their attack. It won't matter if the Colts draft the next AP and the rest draft Mark Ingram.
quote:
- He has much more responsibility than the others
How much responsibility does he have in the run game? The later 3 make a read and decision on every single play. Their passing games will continue to develop as well.
quote:
- He's much more athletic than you are giving him credit for. The dude is actually pretty damn fast. He can run when he needs to.
No doubt, but they don't use it as a designed weapon. He can get a cheap first down like a Ben Roethlisburger (he's more athletic than Big Ben, just an example), but it's not a foundation of their system. Thus when you have more athletic guys who utilize their athleticism more, the gap is significant.
quote:

True, RG3's sucks as well. No argument about Kaep and Wilson's though.
quote:
- Despite being on a very mediocre team, he wins games, and it's ALWAYS all on him. He led a shitty team to the playoffs, without help.
Eh, we'll see if he can do it again. I expect them to regress back to the team their figures say they should have been last year. Hell they almost lost to Oakland.
quote:
I honestly think if you throw him on the Seattle team, and especially San Francisco, his numbers would be outstanding, and absolutely more efficient.
There's simply no way you can say they'd be more efficient. Look at the read option system. It by design creates more efficient QBs due to limited passing attempts and better play actions.
I disagree completely that Seattle and San Fransisco would be better with Luck at the helm. Those are power running teams who incorporate the zone read perfectly and thrive on downfield play action attacks. Their QBs are perfect for that.
I can agree that they might not have as much success as Luck did at Indy. If you want an argument for Luck it's that his skills are "safer" or more applicable to any team. RG3, Kaep, and Wilson will require more specific personnel and a front office willing to commit to a specific system to really maximize their skillsets. If that's for some reason a negative against them, then I guess I'd have to concede that.
The worst part about these threads is you have to put down one to build-up the other. Luck is a no-doubt legit QB. I just think others are better. This is likely to be the best QB class in decades. To say one is better than the other shouldn't be a slight to that QB.
