First step of kayak fishing complete...Purchased a Yak

In laws got me a late birthday present over the weekend. I've been talking about starting to kayak fish and they came through with an Ascend FS128T.
Next step will be to upgrade my rod and reel. I'm mainly going to be fishing for reds in the bays between Surfside and Galveston. Any recommendations?

Solid inlaws. Read up a little bit on that yak, great boat but I think most owners were sealing the hatches since they didnt have a good seal from the factory.

If you're like me, clear out a nice space in the garage for the kayak, because it will sit there for months without using it. It is a heavy bastard.

I just drag mine on the concrete straight from the storage room to the water.
Eta: for the OP, DeaconJones did a review of his several months ago and it had some good info.

That is correct. I re-sealed everything except the two main hatches. I still need to do that. I can say that after fishing the marsh yesterday, there was only a few drops of water in my yak afterwards.....but it wasn't very choppy yesterday. Overall I'm still happy with it, especially for the price I got it for.
To the OP, I have a Penn Battle 200 spinning reel and I love it for reds and specks.

Have you been fishing standing up in yours?

Thanks for the posts, I've been reading about the seals and it's already on my to-do list. Still got a ways to go before I'll be fishing but it's a start.
Going to rig up a few things i.e. better rod holder, Go-Pro mount, etc before I go out for the first time.
I've also been looking at the forums on Texas Kayak Fisherman and getting some good info.

Yes sir. Hooked into several reds yesterday while standing. You won't be dancing a jig up there but I felt comfortable enough to stand while the tide was moving me down the canal. Heck, I almost felt like a real fisherman.
