Does anyone have any experience with these low budget brands over an extended period of time? I wonder how they hold up.

Me, too. I bought it used but it's from '82 and still in fine condition.

taylor gs mini. Its 7/8 scaled guitar.

I'd definitely look at this if I were buying for a 13-year-old, absolutely. I've got a Taylor 110 and I'm impressed with the quality of their lower end or entry level guitars. I imagine the OP's daughter would love the gs mini.

We got my 13 yr old son a mahogany Taylor GS mini last yr for Christmas. He loves it. Has a GREAT sound. He had an Alvarez for his first guitar. I highly recommend the GS Mini if she really loves to play. Got his for $600 plus $50 for the pick up

I have a Washburn 760sw with a cutaway and the best sounding preamp I have ever heard. It has a piezo and a microphone that you can blend to get the sound you like. I'd be willing to part with it for 300. I got it at a store close out so I'm not losing very much. 1300 new, you can find them around 600-750 on sale. Rosewood and ovangkol solid woods, no veneers.

Seagulls. You can pay double the money and not have something that sounds better. Their whole company was built around how to achieve this. Never picked one up that I didn't want to take home with me.

Almost bought a Seagull.

My guitar guy buddy talked me out of it due to cedar top. Like I wold know difference.

To his credit he did say "buy what you like. It's your ear not mine. I just like spruce. "

Seagulls.

I have a Seagull a/e 12-string, cost me somewhere between $700–$800, and I can't imagine a better 12-string at that price. Built like a battleship, and projects that jingle-jangle 12-string sound like a mother. Never played any of their 6-strings, but they seem to have the high quality/reasonable price thing well thought out.

The OP has a ton of good choices, but I suggest forking out that extra $200 for a nice Taylor gs mini or Big Baby or a Seagull 6-string maybe. Hell, his kid is worth the $500-$700 a really nice lower end guitar costs—reward your little girl for the commitment to playing she's shown so far.

Martin-00X1 Java mahogany. Cant beat this guitar for the price. Great sound. Size is very confortable. Affordable ,durable, if you want to move up try 00-15 , but the X series is a great starter that will last a lifetime. I think I paid around 500 a few years back had it upgraded to bone, and Maurys set it up. I have a D-15 factory gloss mahogany, with waverlys dark fossil, mammoth pins etc, ill pick up the X 90% of the time

FYI: Elderly has Martin SPs at half price:

LINK

These would be strings, not guitars, I hope you realize. Still a good deal. I picked up a half dozen MSP4050s for $21.60 shipped. It would have been $33+ at Amazon, Musician's Friend, and StringsAndBeyond.com, which is where I usually buy strings.

Definitely. It has a nice full, rich sound. Mine is a D-style body and while I don't care for D's, I couldn't let it go.
