We did the Bunkie route once. Too much driving 30 mph.

First and last time doing that.

It would probably take me 20 minutes just to get from where I live to airline\190 or whatever.

I live by campus

I-10 in Houston is awful then the drive between Houston and Dallas is dreadful. Your better off flying or SHV to Dal I-20.

I20 is 75 as soon as you get to Texas all the way to Terrell.

190 to Opelousas will save you an extra 20 mins

No way.

190 has way too many 35, 45, 55 speed limits, stop lights, and troopers on it.

Agreed. Go through lafayette, north to Shreveport, and west to Dallas. It's a no fricking brainer, people.

Take I-10 W across the river, past Port Allen and get off at the Lobdell exit, going north. This will take you right to 190.

It really does save approx. 30-40 minutes by taking 190 to Opelousas and taking 49 the rest of the way to Shreveport.

Anyone who has taken geometry ought to know that traveling one side of a triangle is quicker than traveling the other two even if there is a differential in speed.

Port Allen to Opelousas is defintely shorter than Port Allen to I-10/49 junction to Opelousas exit at I-49.

Not all areas of I-10 are 70 mph, particularly on the basin bridge.

I have driven both ways a 100 times or more and there is simply no way you save 30-45 minutes by going the way you suggest.

The distance traveled would definitely be almost 1\2 as much if I took that exit in port allen and went to opelousas.

Can anyone else speak from actual experience? What is the speed limit on 190 after crossing the river?

It is roughly 25 miles from junction of I-10 and I-49 to Opelousas. I agree that traveling 190 doesn't save 30 - 45 minutes. It MAY save 10-15 but that's not significant considering the aggravation you have by starting and stopping at red lights.

I'm from Shreveport and graduated from LSU. I have taken the BR to Shreveport route at least 50 times. 190 is going to save you an extra 20-30 minutes. Maybe even more because you never know when a wreck will back up the bridge. Make sure to slow down when you go through the small towns. You will get on 49 when it goes up to 75.

It's 15-18 minutes to make that trip.

By the crow, 190 is the shorter route.

Once you factor in the stop and go of red lights on 190 and all the different speed limits you run into, there is almost no difference in time.
