Gee college has changed a lot since i attended LSU
Most of the guys had booze in their dorm room. how else were we going to enjoy the home games without sneaking a bottle into the student section. As for fighting there wasn't enough jail space to arrest guys for fighting of course most of the fighting was brought on by the aformentioned alchol consumed during the game. To Much pussyfucation of the college experience.

Perhaps Patterson is waiting to see what Miles does with Jeremy Hill?

he was not suspended for a teams rules related violoation.
He was suspended due to finding a bottle of alcohol in his dorm room during a random RA search. The room is shared with another student.
He was not found using drugs, he was not found drinking, he was not found drunk, he was not driving a vehicle drunken on campus. They simply found a bottle of alcohol in his dorm room.
He appealed the suspension and won it.
GP had nothing to do with the matter.
Texas Christians hate alcohol.

I understand your quick judgment, but you are mixing quotes.
"My whole team would vote Devonte to be back on the team because they all want to win," Patterson said. "That doesn't teach life lessons."
quote:
was school initiated and controlled
"He's doing everything he has to," Patterson said. "He's been embarrassed quite a bit for three months. That's one of the reasons I did it, so I could change him."
quote:
His comments on teaching life lessons were concerning the lessons the team would learn if they were allowed to vote a player back on the team in confrontation of a suspension.
Sure

Can we whine a bit more about Coach Patterson?
Just a little more?
Please?
The game hasn't even been played, Devonte Fields hasn't even stepped foot on the field, and you're already calling Coach Patterson a hypocrite?

The only reason that this is an issue at all is because TCU's Coach made comments about Hill, which were turned into a national news story that portrayed LSU and Les Miles in a negative light, even though The game hasn't even been played, and Jeremy Hill hasn't even stepped foot on the field.
Why do you hold anonymous LSU fans on the Rant to a higher standard than Patterson?
I mean, if anyone gave the greenlight for speculation and moral grandstanding about whether a player was going to play or not based on an unclear suspension status, it was Gary Patterson.

The same game that Miles has already been criticized for reinstating Hill?

Haha y'all are ridiculous. The official word is that Fields is still suspended. When Pachall was arrested and suspended last year, GP originally said he would still suit up and stand on the sidelines so that he couldn't hide and would have to be with the teammates that he let down and face the torture of being dressed but not being able to help the team on the field. He later decided to keep Pachall away from the game completely because it would've been too big of a distraction in that particular situation, but this could very well be a part of the punishment for Fields.
The only way I see Fields playing is if this suspension was in fact put in place by the university rather than GP, and Fields won an appeal. I don't see how this is hypocritical in any way. All GP said was that he wouldn't ever put a player suspension up for a team vote because that wouldn't teach lessons. He's right. But if Fields was wrongfully suspended by the school, then there is no reason he shouldn't play. And for all of you comparing the Fields situation to Hill's, well, y'all are pretty friggin dumb. Hill has been arrested and convicted of two crimes. Fields apparently had a beer in his dorm room. Apples and oranges.
This news that Fields will suit up is about the same as Miles saying today that Hill will be traveling with the team. The fact remains that neither player is likely to play a down.

Did you listen to the entire interview? I did.
Patterson did not say A SINGLE WORD about LSU, Miles, or Hill. Not one. He was answering a question about Devonte Fields. The link to the audio for the entire interview is below.

GP answered a direct question and said that he would never put a player suspension up for a team vote. When he was asked what he thought about the Hill situation, he said he took it as a sign of respect, because if y'all were playing some cupcake it would likely be a nonstory. He was right on both.
This whole thing was blown way out of proportion from the start by the media, simply because it's the off-season and they try to make a story out of every little thing they can. The fact that people are questioning either coaches' integrity is laughable IMO. I just can't wait for actual football to be played so we have something of actual substance to talk about.

Listen to the audio. He's answering a question in the context of his team; admitting that his team would vote to have fields back.
When directly asked about Miles and Hill, he DIRECTLY STATES - Not his concern, he (Patterson) needs to play whoever LSU puts on the field.
Anyone that listens to that audio will completely understand that there was no trash talk from Patterson.
