Austin is a great town with some really great beer. Be sure to go the FBD thread on the Food and drink board and ask what brews to pick up down there.

The earlier you arrive is generally better than later. I assume you have lodging and transportation provided already. In terms of eating there will be no need for you to worry if you pull out your passports. If you want to have fun with your ancestry come up with a way that you are the real Irish and wouldn't take shite from the Damers. Tell your driver to drop you off at the North Gates where The Chimes and Serranos are located. Serranos is safe only for margaritas, Chimes decent food(but as noted above you will be very much able to get free eats from tailgaters everywhere), then just start roaming the campus. Definite things to do during the day, visit Mikes little home and safely see what a tiger looks like really close(about one inch), and catch the band marching down the Hill and witness a good bit of chaos.

Yup staying in Belle of Baton Rouge. We have a car but planning to get a taxi to campus and just wander around. Stupid question but there's no need to have your own car to tailgate right? As long as I've a beer cooler with wheels that's all that's needed?
Game day will be day 9 of a 14 day bender so atleast one night in the gutter is inevitable really. Is Walk-ons the place to go after the game?

If you can somehow get your reservations changed from the Belle to L'Auberge. Do it.
This would work fine. I'd actually recommend this route for you so that you can walk around and take in everything.

don't worry about food tailgaters will be happy to share

It is. You can walk up to pretty much any tailgate and when you tell them you are form Ireland and this is your first game they will feed you and give you all of the booze you can drink!

Catching a cab post game can abe tricky,as most companies want to avoid the traffic gridlock that ties up their cabs then. I've known friends who waited hrs for their cab. Depending on the time of kickoff as to your arrival time. Most of LSU's SEC games are at 2 pm now, so that makes your arrival time as early as 8'ish at the latest. For a nite game, 11 is almost too late. Cups & cans permitted, no glass containers anywhere. And LSU does use undercover nazis to catch underage drinkers,so just act like you belong. I'd avoid any restuarants game day, as there are literally 10000's of places to eat as long as you are friendly & let it be known you are from Ireland. Hot here, so dress appropriately.

My friends host a sprawling tailgate on the LSU Parade Grounds: multiple tents, multiple barbecue pits/grills, Cajun food, kegs, beer pong tables, satellite TV, jello shots, hard alcohol, etc. It just so happens that my best friend -- and one of the tailgate's founders -- is of Irish descent (not first or second generation, however). In fact, we all went to Dublin for his bachelor party. Previously, he had lived in Dublin for a brief time. He may be willing to host you for the day, or at least allow you to partake of the tailgate for a few hours. Do you have an e-mail address where you can be contacted?
Beyond that, it should be easy for you to saunter up to any tailgate and solicit hospitality. You will be a novelty.

I laugh. We have started tailgating at 5 or 6 AM for 2 PM kickoffs, though I would say that the majority of people arrive between 8 AM and 10 AM. The bars in Baton Rouge only stay open until 2 AM (though that is later than the establishments in the Temple Bar district, if I recall correctly).
Point being, get out there as early as possible.
I'll pass along your e-mail address to my friend. If all else fails, come to the Parade Grounds on game day and look for the pink-ish tent on the southern periphery (near the student union). We also have a distinctive beer pong table painted to match the field at Tiger Stadium.

Copper Faced Jacks on Harcourt St stays open til 5/6!! Templebar is half the fun at twice the price of a good beering session in Dublin.
But definitely will try our best to make it down for 8ish. Want to experience as much as possible.
Sounds good, hope to hear from him. Will make our way to Parade Grounds in any case. We'll probably be the only ones wearing green as opposed to purple and gold so should be easy to pick out

You are gonna have a blast. Just get to campus early and enjoy. You can bring a few beers while walking around, but you will probably find someone willing to trade beer for funny accents and good stories.

We have big sporting events and an 80,000 capacity stadium but most people have never even heard of tailgating here. Same goes for England. Tailgating at Tiger Stadium has been like our Mecca for a while now!
That LSU gear is awesome, defo getting a tshirt shipped over here before I go.
