Coon in a box stand before daylight. Coon ended up dead but only after he drew blood from me in 3 different places. Has anyone ever fired a .270 inside a stand? A scoped bolt action is not the preferred weapon for close quarter battle.

That reminds me though. A covey of quail in the pitch dark walking to my stand in the morning. I imagine that is what a heart attack feels like. Those basterds sure like to wait til you are on top of them til they flush, huh?

I know the feeling. Had a similar encounter with a possum. Had left my bag in the stand the previous hunt with some beef jerky in it. Right before daylight the next morning the bag started moving. Shot into it with my 9mm side piece about 5 times while it bounced around. Ruined the bag and ruined the hunt. My dad was hunting one stand down and immediately called wondering how the hell I shot a bolt action rifle with 4 rounds 5 times that fast. I nearly had a heart attack and almost shot my toes off.
