I don't think this episode was as great as some of you make it. While I don't ever question the writers here, but why the gasoline cliffhanger when we all know the house doesn't burn down? Is Jr finding out this way that important in the storyline?

Gas makes sense because its a last minute weapon of opportunity.

Jesse pouring gasoline wasn't the cliffhanger. His retaliating against Walt, being super pissed, and carrying a gun is the cliffhanger. It also answers questions as to why "Heisenberg" was written on the wall in the beginning of the second half of the season (many speculated that kids may have written it, implying that Walt's identity is publicly known).
