People know about leading with the helmet, but this is one rule that hasn't really been mentioned and will cause many F bombs to fly from fans, coaches, etc., at the end of a close game with time running out.
Very, very, very few games have a spike within 3 seconds of the end of the game - and only in a minority of those cases will the spiking team go on to win.
Its a really silly rule though if you ask me. Is it to end the debate of whether or not the spike got off in time? Well why not argue about whether it was really 2 seconds or 3 when the ball was spiked?
