The poison is set and forget, but the traps need to be checked regularly so the animal doesn't suffer and chew its foot off. We've used the cuff traps before. They work really well but we run our trap lines daily.

They work really well in short burst. After about 5 days pull them and wait a few weeks before putting them back out.
Marshmallows worked alright but floating fish feed pellets tossed with syrup produced better. Just don't use this if cats are around.
One warning, if working near pets make sure the type you buy has a pull trigger only. A dog can set the push type off and be caught by the tongue.
