I'd like to look at them in a vacuum, as it would deprive them of air and kill Don Henley. I can't think of a single Eagles song I like. I'm sure there's one or two, but God... their music is so far removed from anything I like to listen to. There's nothing about their sound I like.

So, I was sitting at a breakfast restaurant yesterday and "Lyin' Eyes" came over their sound system and I thought of this thread... then my next thought was "make it stop, make it stop!"
Henley's best song, the only one I can still bear to hear, is "Heart of the Matter", but only when it's not the top-40 abbreviated version that leaves out:
I'm learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again
As I've said in a previous thread, that's the best part of the song and it gets cut for airplay.... weird.

One thing I've learned reading this thread is there is very little middle ground. You either love 'em or you hate 'em.

nothing at all? they had some pretty killer riffs and henley's voice was always a pretty cool voice I thought.
great bassline/intro with the synth

As soon as I saw thread topic, I knew this would be ugly knowing the hatred the TGMB has for the Eagles. I don't really listen to them anymore, but went through a phase where I enjoyed them. They are talented. Not really sure how you could hate them.

Just popped in to say that if you haven't seen The History of the Eagles Part 1 yet, I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic documentary. It's playing on Showtime.

It recently became popular to hate them. People repeat what they hear.

Oh come on.... Bee Gees were good, but THIS is the best:
it's 65 degrees at 4:30 in mid-August in Atlanta and I agree with Rex on something. It must be even colder down below.

and this. i haven't purposely listened to them in ages but def no hate. anyone who learned to write songs by listening to a young jackson browne has some songwriting cred just be association. not a huge fan of any of the individual members, but the band definitely filled a spot in music history--decent country rock.

I just bought the 3 DVD set and watched the concert last night. Will watch part 1 tonight.

I'm 65 years old so I've been listening to them for a few years.

Wow. I bet you have some stories.

A couple.
I went through 12 years of school with Bobby Kimball the lead singer of Toto. Marcia Ball's Dad was my baseball coach. Saw Janis Joplin in the Big Oaks Club. Almost got into a fight with Jimmie Johnson outside the Big Oaks Club. Grew up with the Boogie Kings. Those were the days.

I have heard of her. Was she really that good?

I agree with Gram Parsons, who called their music "a plastic dry-frick"

I only saw her once and she was certainly different. I forgot about her until she hit the big time in the late '60s. I didn't like her music, so I didn't hear much of what she did. Drugs did her in before she was 30.

I did hear this. Also didn't drugs do in Morrison and Hendrix? A couple of real talented people right there. I love the Doors.
