Voting on team captains and voting on let a dude who's guilty of two different crimes be reinstated aren't exactly on the same level. I hope you can understand that.
#18 was worn by LSU QB Matt Mauck during the 2003 NC season. He handed it down to a young player he respected named Jacob Hester. Enjoying the right to wear the number has become an honor and at some point the tradition was changed to use a vote to decide who get to wear it next.
