re: Landon Collins vs Hootie Jones

Id love for you to tell me where I'm hating on Hootie. Just because I think someone's better doesn't mean I'm hating on that lesser (in my option) player. If you paid attention you'd know I think Hootie is the top safety in the country.
Hootie is a great player and will have a fine career. But to act like LC was some garbage player is completely idiotic. Take off the purple and gold glasses and realize LC was a rare prospect. If Landon chose LSU over Alabama, people would be laughing at the OP for even posting this thread.

You're the one trying to make it seem like it's all about him being at Bama.
Never said he LC was garbage. I said he'll be a beast strong safety. How is that garbage?
Also said the NFL values safeties with more range in coverage. Hooties ability to play CB and his quick feet/hips give him the edge.
You're the one saying it's illogical hate. When it's actually rational criticism

You're crazy if you think Landon Collins can't like up in the slot and cover a WR

Read any LC thread, 99% of the thread will be illogical hate. Offering a ban bet on Hootie having a better career before he's played his senior year makes no sense.

LC has range and could play corner if he wanted to, you honestly believe LC doesn't have as quick of feet and hips as Hootie? Come on.

I'm not making it seem like that, people hate on him strictly because of him going to Alabama.

Yet a good bit of the posters in this thread are trying to make it seem like Hootie is a scrub compared to Collins.
I think Collins will be great, but I also think that Hootie has more potential than any other safety in this years class. Which is a really big deal considering how stacked the DB class is this year.

It's obvious. Look at their highlights again.
Plus the fastest shuttle he's run is a 4.2, while his average is higher. He would have trouble in close coverage on great receivers. That's why most of the time he played 5-10 yards off the receiver, while Hootie is in press coverage a good bit of the time. The difference between them is not much at all.
I'm just pissed people are acting like Hootie is a JV player compared to Collins. Both will be beasts, but at the same point in their careers I give the edge to Hootie.

No a good bit of the posters are aware of the type of prospect LC was. Nobody is calling Hootie a scrub.

No need to, I've seen both plenty. LC could play corner.

Shuttle doesn't make or break a defensive back. I don't understand why you act like that says if you can be a good defensive back or not.
There's also nothing to say Hootie runs a faster shuttle than LC to begin with.

I'm late to this thread (as usual) but Collins coming out of high school was in a league of his own. Hootie will have to straight ball his SR year to be considered his equal. Now, Hootie is a special talent and I hope he chooses to play at LSU. He will make the sting of losing Collins much easier.

Hootie is a nice player, but he's not in LC's realm IMO.
Okay my bad. It was mainly one guy.

Yeah he could take snaps at corner. Hootie could be a starting corneback for the majority of schools. Big difference.

Shuttle time is the most important measurement of a players ability to play corner. It's the best measurement for change of direction, feet quickness, and loose hips. This argument was about Hootie having more potential at corner than Collins. LC has more than enough speed at safety, but he wouldn't be a great fit as a starting cornerback in the SEC. While I think that Hootie could.

So if LC told the staff he wanted to play corner, would only play corner, and we still took his commitment, it would be a waste of a scholarship because he couldnt start for the majority of schools there in your mind? LC could be a starting corner for the majority of schools as well.

I've yet to find where Hootie ran a faster shuttle than LC.

Landon might have been the best safety to come out of La in a long time.
I think he will be a better college safety then loston, Reid, Mayes, Barron, jones, steltz and possibly Landry. Collins is a fricking stud. When he picked bama, a little bit of me died inside.
Laron was one of the most impressive safeties I have ever seen.
We don't know enough about hootie yet. All these rankings will change throughout the senior year.

Enough with Collins. I don't care how good he was in HS anymore, or how neatly his testicles rested on Peopleschamp's chin, he's an enemy. This thread should be Hootie vs Cory Thompson if everybody is that bored that they want to play these stupid what if games

Simmer down man.

Hootie is a little bigger, but Landon is faster and took over games even when there was top notch players on the field with him. Diarse was clearly the better player over Hootie. Now Hootie is a beast, and will be a big time safety in the SEC.

Landry was basically a 4 year All American...I'm not putting anyone on his level that I have seen play except Sean Taylor. Landon can be as good maybe same was said about Chad Jones who also had all world ability and never lived up to it in college.

All I'm saying is if you can't compare Hootie to Landon till after a senior season in high school don't compare LC to all American or all SEC players when he has yet to play a snap of collegiate football

Collins did alot of damage on offense his senior year a few people started to think he could be a tailback in college after that year. But as a coverage safety/corner I think jones has the edge. Collins is a big hitter when I looked at his highlights covering wrs didn't stand out to me as with jones.
At least I can see you've actually compared both by their film... There's no doubt that Hootie Jones is the better overall safety b/c of his coverage ability. Although LC was a beast, LC played more close to the line of scrimmage compared to Hootie who has actually taken snaps at corner as evidenced in both state title games against Karr. Hootie played man press that whole game in the receivers face and Karr never through one time against him. Not to say LC doesn't have coverage ability, I just didn't see much on film to say that he's a better prospect than Hootie. JMO

When chad jones came to campus, he could barely bench 225 one time. Just sayin
