Agreed. I'd been happy keeping the elder statesman around through next year, but it opens a spot to see if lake can stick and gives him a shot for another playoff run.

sounds like his goodbye was emotional to say the least.

I see no reason for them to trade cheap, useful commodities like Thunder Nate or The DeJesus. They are solid, dependable and cheap players. Someone will have to overwhelm the Cubs to make them trade those guys. There's no point in trading to trade.

Look at it this way. The Cubs were shopping Garza because they knew they could get value for him. The value of the return was worth more to the Cubs than Garza himself. In this situation, with DeJesus and Schierholtz, they won't "shop" them or put them on the block, but they will most certainly listen to offers.
