I'm so tired of this formula the yankees have been using the last 5-10 years... when is cashman just going to realize that this roster is done, we might have a losing record for a few seasons, but it's time to rebuild on young talent. We can't just keep buying up all the former stars who are past their prime and signing them to way too inflated contracts.
:sigh:

Uhhhh.....
Exactly when have the Yankees done this recently?
ARod is one they resigned who had no business resigning but every other veteran signed recently has been short term and not a crazy contract.
Yankees are not paying Vernon Wells full salary, they would not pay Soriano's, Hafner is gone at end of the year, now they do have Cano/Granderson to resign at the end of the season. Probably will overpay on both

The yankees really won't pay much at all, and infact could work it out to where they actually get a credit for next year (sori is owed 18 million next year, if cubs pay all of that then they'd get a 1 million credit since tax works with the average of the salary over the period) to keep it under the luxury tax threshold by paying all of the remainder this year and having the cubs pick up next year's contract. That gives them a better option than wells and could keep them under the tax. Source-BN.

That's easy to say, i'd love to hear from yankees fan if it actually happend.
