How are you doing in recruiting?
Not as well as I'd hope in my offline (still have signing day, but I have 14 commits and expected to sign 4-5 more), but I'm doing pretty well so far in my online (no commits at week 6, but leading by a lot for 10+).

Be careful in the offseason. The CPU dumps all their points into one guy. I was leading on about 10 going into the offseason and only signed 1 bc I spread out my points.
Try to sign who you want during the season and then pick 1 or 2 you really want and dump all your points into them.
(Disclaimer: I'm not recruiting expert...but I lost out with this before).

What is a good quarter length for a realistic stats?

I play 8 min quarters. Just read up on operation sports. They have some pretty in depth details about sliders and such. This will get you the most realistic gameplay and stats. You may decided to tweak their stuff a little, but if you play with it enough you will figure out what works for you.
I found some that work for me and I'm having a blast with it. Here is how a game normally plays out for me..
If I'm playing against a lesser opponent I usually rack up between 250-350 passing yards on around 25 attempts. Rushing I usually get 100-150 yards on 20 carries. Usually get a pick or two and 4-5 sacks on defense.
Against the top notch SEC schools my stats usually depend on if I have to rely heavily on the pass or not. Sometimes the teams have a very good rush defense (Bama and Florida) and I have to pass more. So I can sometimes get around 300 yards passing, but only rush for 60-80 yards on 20 or so carries. Now sometimes I will be playing a good team with a poor rush defense and I can pound it on them for 150, but my passing numbers are down. Defensivly I will get a sack or two and if I'm lucky pick one off.
I'm having a blast with it. In season 2 so far I played ULM first and blew them out. They put up 22 on me in the first half, but that was mainly due to my stupidity. They didn't stop me from scoring much though. I then played MSU and they kept it close for a half, but I ended up winning by 21.
In my first year I can sometimes put up a defensive gem against a really good team. I beat Florida 26-0 during the regular season, but struggled against them in the SEC Championship (only winning 12-10). I also had a really good, close game, against Bama and Texas A&M. I totally committed to stopping Manziel from beating me with his feet, but he torched me through the air. Now Texas in the NC was a different story. I couldn't stop those bastards. I'm still pissed about it.

So recruiting sucks? Also special teams was a bitch last year. You could only take one to the house on the outside and only averaged about 2 or 3 yards a punt return.

Recruiting doesn't suck at all. It is, however, much different. Takes some getting used to. It takes far less time.
Special teams is fine too. Dural was 2nd team all sec returner for me last year. He took one to the house. So far in year 2 he has taken a punt and a kick. It's not easy but it can be done.

I'm going to advance to that point hopefully tomorrow or the day after.
Will respond with results.

Recruiting sucks as a level one coach, that is for sure
Veteran coaches get huge bonuses on visits and points totals.

Still on NCAA 13.. DC for Houston...went 11-2 in my second season....then I got a HC job with Ole Miss. Did pretty well for 2 seasons, didn't recruit worth a shite. Took the coaching job at Texas Tech, where I am now. I left Ole Miss in shambles.

Is it worth buying this year?
Posted on 7/23/13 at 12:07 pm to jamal
I think so, but I usually buy it every year. If you ask that question here the majority will tell you no. But people on this site seem to find something wrong with EVERYTHING..

Yes it does. It's frustrating to see small schools win over kids because they have more points to spend and can spend more on their players.

Anybody start off with a 1 star team? I'm interested to know how you recruited. If its hard to sign players with lsu then it has to be hard to sign players with crappy schools. What do you do?? Just fill up with 1-2 star guys?
If that's the case how do you get any better? I may have to try this out bc I like the challenge. I'm nicely challenged using lsu right now, but after a few titles I may switch to a 1 star program and try to build them up.

Going with my second dynasty style from last year...1* OC to 6* OC to 6* HC and a national title. (Not in just two moves, of course.)
Started as the OC at South Alabama, running my custom spread option playbook. Went 9-4 in my first year with a big-time 3OT bowl win.
Managed to snag the OC job at South Carolina, and I'm 2-0 heading into the big clash with #6 Georgia.

I wanted a challenge so I started out as DC at Old Dominion who sucks balls. Recruiting was actually easier than I expected. I targeted guys that had OD in their top 3, then top 5, then top 10. 15 targeted total. Scout them all in the pre-season and dump as many points as you can on your needs then wants. I think the key is to target no more than 12-15 guys and make a hard run at em.
We finished 8-4 with no bowl bid and I got the DC job at USF. We are 4-0 right now and my defense is a lot better. Recruiting is easier too.

There's a TD 1* dynasty going on right now. Majority of my board is 3*s with some 2*s. Just have to go after best players you can in your pipelines and get lucky on players that have proximity to home high on their list.
Posted on 7/23/13 at 1:48 pm to oauron
Yep, the key is to only have 15 guys who start out with your team in the top 5. I'll try breaking into top recruits who have my team low when I get my recruiting leveled up.

Playing defense in this game is fricking hard. Offense is freaking easy, I just can't stop anybody. I'm winning games but they're all like 40-37
