You're welcome to join the club, friend! We'd love to have you on board. Years ago when I first started drinking I started with typically Abita beers. Lot of Amber, lot of Turbodog. Amber especially is available virtually EVERYWHERE. They caused me to migrate towards brown ales, stouts, and porters. Didn't care for Pale Ales or IPAs at first. Then I had Southern Tier's 2X IPA which changed my perspective entirely. Now I drink more IPAs than any other type.
My advice is to just be adventurous. You don't have to spend a whole lot to get a feel for different styles. Once you find one or two that appeal to you, focus on exploring those and figuring out exactly what it is you like about them. From there you can come here and get other recommendations from us or chat with bartenders or the people that work at places like Calandro's. You'll learn a lot that way. Eventually you'll probably find that you're more receptive to styles you didn't initially care for as much because your palate has become more refined. It's a process, and a damn fun process at that. Happy drinking
