Why do QB's only get 4pts for TD?

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I'm probably going custom scoring for 6pt TDs. I just saw a mock draft site (real good one) with Mark Ingram right above Tom Brady on default rankings. QB's SHOULD be all 1st or 2nd round picks.

I always draft a high QB, Rodgers, Manning, Brady. I find them to be more valuable than most people.
The idea is that they score 30+ TD's while RB's/WR's score like 15 as a high number.

I'm of the opinion that all tds should be 6 points, and all fgs should be 3 points.

What about misses? miss a 60 yarder -1?

You answered your own question
It basically increases the value of QBs and distorts the balance of positional powers.
8 of the top 10 players in 6 point passing TD, PPR leagues were QBs last season. 13 of the top 20. The top 7 were all QBs. Guys like Andy Dalton and Josh Freeman were top 20 players.

always wanted to try to play around with a scoring system that at the end of the year showed even distribution among the 3 main positions
end of year top 10 scorers (3wr,4rb,3qb)
next 10(4wr,3rb,3qb)
next 10(4qb,3rb,3wr)
so PPR, QB TDs 4pts, 1pt for 50 yards passing,1 for 10 rec/run yards?
I'm not commish to play with stuff

Well, think about how valuable they were to their teams. CIN won 10? TB won some games. It would just mirror real life where QBS are immensely valuable

With 4 pt TDs it decreases the value of QBs like you said Brady below Ingram. But with 6 pt TDs it does the opposite and you have bad QBs above very good players.
The way to make QB play valuable but not too valuable is to tweak the points for passing yardage.
6pt tds, 50 yard passing=1
or
4pt tds, 25 yard passing=1
i personally like 6 pt TDs because thats what a real TD is worth. I also dont like 4 and 5 pt FGs.

I always hated minus points for missed field goals. Like you said, the guy could miss a 60 yarder or get it blocked and that's the kicker's fault?

Do you get negative points for INTs? What if the receiver drops a pass and it's picked off? QB still gets docked points and nothing happens to the WR.
If you are giving positive points for anything there needs to be repercussions for the negatives (INT, fumble, miss FG etc)

Agreed Gyno. You have to have negative points.
And it just skews the scoring for QBs. So yeah, Dalton may be top 20, but he will still be in the correct order of QBs. TDs are a bit more of a premium as 6, but the scoring will average out for QBs. They will score more points but they are all on the same scoring system, so the ratios will remain in tact.

I know. I was just pointing out how inflated it makes QBs.
Freeman and Dalton ahead of guys like Foster, AJ Green, Bryant, Welker, Ray Rice etc. Granted those guys didnt have their top 10 type seasons we expected, but come on.

I agree. It completely throws off the yearly stats and I understand the valuation of looking at Foster and seeing him behind the #6 QB in total points. But, unless its a 2 QB league, it will all even out for the most part.
For the record, I am against 6 PT passing TDs for QBs. Rushing 6, passing 4.

I dont really care either way. I play in both every year and the draft strategy adjustment is minimal.
Like you said, it's the same for every QB. It's just a matter of slightly ticking QBs up or down your draft board

I play both too an like you said, not much difference. I have 3rd pick in one league this year (PPR) and think I may go Charles with Reid calling the shots. That's assuming AP is off the board. What you think?
