For those who rinse rice before cooking, who knew?

Rice is often mixed with talc, to prevent moisture from getting in. Talc makes rinse water white. Talc used to have asbestos in it, but talc is not considered dangerous. I wouldn’t want it in my food, though.[/img]
I always thought that was starch.

I've done it since I noticed my ex-girlfriends mom did it. She was an award winning chef and Taiwanese so I figured she knew a thing or 2 about rice.

I microwave the asbestos off, then boil it to kill it.

Big Green Egg is far superior to other methods of cleansing this talc/asbestos amalgam from rice.
Fact.
