I don't really think you classify Saints Row or GTA as a RPG. It's an open world game, but I'd say it's an action or third person shooter.
Other categories:
Best Puzzle Game
Best Platformer
Best WRPG
Best JRPG
Best Strategy Game
Then you can get away from genres and into:
Best Writing
Best OST
Most Underrated
Most Overrated
etc.

Best First Person Shooter: I remember really enjoying Halo 3.
Best Third Person Shooter: Red Dead Redemption
Best Open World Role Playing Game: Fallout: New Vegas
Best Sports Game: I played Jet Grind Radio on the Xbox Arcade, if that counts
Best Playstation 3 Exclusive: Demon's Souls
Best Xbox 360 Exclusive: I can't really remember many Xbox exclusives, so I'll say Halo 3, again.
Biggest Overall Bust of This Generation: I don't remember playing any truly awful games, but I was probably most disappointed by Mirror's Edge. I enjoyed the freerunning/platforming, but the story and combat were pretty bad. It was also incredibly short.
Best Overall Console Game of This Generation: It probably isn't the best, but I had the most fun playing Fallout: New Vegas

Wait until you play 3. It's just cut scenes and boring gameplay.

Another reason I'll always love Halo: it's player against player. No killstreaks and no special perks. Halo 4 MIGHT be heading down that road, but it's not OP yet. The drops you get are random. How anyone can have fun against a player who flies around like hummingbird and knives everyone in a blur is beyond me. You can have it.

Anyone mentioned AC3 for biggest bust. I haven't played it but it had a lot of hype and people seemed to hate it.

FTR, putting TLoU in this category is a slap in the face of that game. I don't consider it a shooter, but JMO.
I agree so much. It's like me including Mass Effect as my pick here, it's a very backhanded award.

ACII was the best of the series by far but Brotherhood wasn't that far behind IMO
Agreed. I really want to finish Brotherhood. I loved having assassins working for me. 3 is impossible to get in to. I still can't make it to the Indian guy. Still playing with whitey.

The biggest problem with it is the incredible amount of technical issues and bugs that plague the game. It's impossible to not have some type of game breaking bug while playing through it.
Once you get past that, I enjoyed the game. Combat was the same as previous, but they did revamp some of the Assassin sidekick stuff and the naval missions were a lot of fun.

It was pretty great. Probably my choice for best Third Person Shooter. Gears really perfected the cover system.

I know I am in the minority, but I really couldn't get into Gears. I enjoyed the first, but I felt no urge to play 2.
I did rent 2, but only got about 1/2 of the way through.

Best FPS - Bioshock
Best TPS - Gears of War 2
Best Open World - inFamous (I really don't like open world games, so I went with the one I had the most fun with)
Best Sports Game - NBA2k13 (I've only played NBA 2k13 and NCAA this generation along with Wii Sports)
Best Racing Game - Gran Turismo 5
Best PS3 Exclusive - Valkyria Chronicles
Best Xbox 360 Exclusive - Lost Odyssey
Biggest Bust - Lair (seriously, some of these choices are really bad. You forget about things like Lair, Red Steel, Duke Nukem, Spore, Too Human, Haze, etc.)
Best Overall Game - Valkyria Chronicles
Best Indie Game - Journey (it's really Recettear, but that's only on PC)

While the story wasn't as good, I thought the campaign was improved and the multiplayer was definitely better.

I know...I know. I think the Gears of War craze happened when I was still big into Halo.
GoW I think was too "clunky" for me on MP.

It was a game that was tough getting used to, and maybe I'm wrong on this, but until 3, all of it's MP was round based one and done games. Same reason getting good at Counter Strike is a chore.

I have no idea how anyone can think GoW was clunky as a TPS yet worship Uncharted.
GoW and Ghost Recon are probably the most seamless TPS there are movement wise.
