Even if you don't agree with the trade, have faith in Demps...

I love the trade, but some don't. We get a proven PG instead of a potentially good player in a few years (same can be said about the potential of the pick in next year's draft).
Even if you don't like the trade, the FO is telling us they want to win now. We could have taken one of the PG in the draft and say the best SF in next year's draft and then sit around a few years while they all develop, but Demps said the time is now.
There is no doubt on my mind that this move is not the last move before the start of this season. Demps will get us at least one more piece of the puzzle and try to win now. The Pelicans will be much improved from last year, and the wins will attract free agents to come here in the future on the road to become champions.
Its time to forget about tanking and future lottery picks and start thinking about what seed we will be in the playoffs.
In Demps I trust.

I liked the attitude and I would like to be dick and say that if you would have read this board at all you would see that this opinion has been thrown out every which way, but I'm too classy for that.

Noel WILL be a bust. Every PF and C in the league is going to be able to box his 200-lb frame out easily, he has Andrew Bynum's knees, and rookie Dwight Howard's post moves.
You can argue the pick for next year.

yeah, one can argue, but the bottom line is that next year's draft, like every draft, is all speculation. After wiggens, who is a guaranteed star? Like every draft, it would be taking a chance on unproven NBA talent. If one can't see the huge advantage of picking up a proven young all-star for 2 unproven rookies, you're a dreamer.

haha nope, I even tried to think of it too before I posted. Doc didnt' quit, did Simmons quit today?
ETA: Never mind, I forgot the original Simmons quote, I was just thinking Doc's reaction.
Good one.

I don't hate the trade, but I don't know if it makes total sense. I like Holiday, but I think we could have signed comparable PGs (Ellis, Jennings or maybe Teague) for about the same or less money. Plus still draft an impact player (McLemore) and keep future picks. Now we have less cap room to try to fill a major hole (SF or C). I don't think it's bad, it's just a way I don't agree with.

Good for you. I don't drink the kool aid for any FO guy. Demps has and will make mistakes. I don't judge him too harshly. But I don't believe blindly and this board was made for us to discuss these type of moves. If we don't break them down, then what's the point of coming on here.

None of those guys are even close to Jrue's level. Jennings probably wants more than him as well.

Our only real major hole is SF. Lopez is serviceable at C. shite, if the Thunder can make it to the Finals with Kendrick Perkins as their C then I think Lopez will be fine. Picks are always unknown so I don't mind trading them for proven top 10 talent at a position. We still have enough money to get a decent SF and can even get a guy like Iguodala simply by flipping Vasquez and temporarily releasing Smith.

Ellis isn't a point guard. MIL has already said they will match any offer for Jennings. Jeff Teague? lol.

The only thing that scares me is if this move puts us in Houston Rockets territory (fringe playoff team), which is the worst possible spot to be in because you are not a legit title contender, but also picking in the middle of the draft.
We improved, but this team still has some holes and now we don't have as much cap space and could be without a pick next year.

I'd like to think that our core of Jrue/Gordon (healthy)/Davis/Ryno would be better than their core when they were a constant 8-10 seed.
Posted on 6/29/13 at 1:10 pm to tehchampion140
I'd like to think that too, but I'm going to have my doubts until I see a good sample size of this core play together.
Holiday is an upgrade over Vasquez, no doubt, but so much so that we move from lotto to contender?

Not alone, but it should definitely get us more wins when you factor in his much greater quickness and his elite defense vs. no defense. Playoffs this year will really depend upon a healthy Gordon, though, unless we get a really good SF.

Ellis can and has played a lot of PG. Teague had the same exact season as Holiday, except he played less minutes on a better team. If I could sign him outright, get McLemore and keep next year's pick.. then I would rather that. Obviously, Demps thought PG was a huge need (I would have rolled with Vasquez/Rivers another season), so they went out to find an answer. I like that they were proactive, I'm just not sold on the results. We shall see though..

But to go from where we were last season to where we want to be, you are looking at 25 game swing, I don't think one player, unless he is Lebron, Kobe, etc. can do that.

Another reason why I have my reservations. A healthy Gordon hasn't been around for almost 3 years.

You're an idiot if you don't like this trade. Simple enough.
