Sea Plane for Specks and Reds

Thinking about springing for a sea plane trip for my dad and I in the next couple of weeks to fish the Chandeleurs or Gosier with Theophile Bourgeois. Does anyone know if this is a good time of year to do this? I know Theophile is a good honest man, but think they'd waive me off if this wasnt a good time of year to wade fish and catch trout and reds?

If you can...do it.
Trout are thick down there and the plane would be a kick in the arse.
Mind you I would never spend that kind of cash...but I ain't you. If you are leaving from 318 it really seems like an awesome trip.

I have done it several times. Buddy has one.
We went down to Grand Isle barrier islands though. As long as the trout are shallow it's kick arse. You literally spot fish the schools from the air, land and start catching. Plus all the boats in the area are like who the hell are these guys?

Well, I think he leaves from Lafitte, but dad is getting up there and I think this would be a great belated fathers day present.
So, there are trout at the islands during the summer? For some reason, i thought that was more of a fall thing.

Absolutely. Big trout. Lots of them.

Thanks much. Its an expensive risk...but I think dad will enjoy seeing the coast from the air.

What does it cost?
I've never even heard of this type of trip.

Yes and big sharks also. But with plane, he'll avoid the areas the sharks are real bad. It's pretty cool site to see from air.

Bonnet heads out the arse...but they won't bother you.

Just keep in mind this is one of the weirdest years I have experienced out there in the past 35. Trout are at the islands one day and not the next. That is a TON of money to spend and bomb out. IMO the islands are far from the garuntee they normally are. (I fish them about 3 days a week from May to October)

yep. on my list of outdoor trips one day
good luck

Well, thats just great, Da Hammer.
Now, I'm rethinking it!
I guess thats why its called fishing, not spending a grand or so to get on a seaplane to fly out to barrier islands and catching.

Fished Friday caught limits, Saturday caught 1, Sunday caught 46, Monday zeroed and went after snapper.

That is how the entire summer has been out there and not for just me, but pretty much everyone that fishes out there.

One last thought.....
If it's the islands you are wanting to fish and not so much the experience keep in mind Breton and Gossier are about 12 mi from Venice and ANY guide down there can take you by boat and save $$$$. However if the plane experience is what you are after then you will have to go elsewhere for that.
