was gerrard high? only watched the second half, but that was by far the worst i've ever seen him play. passes were way off and got burned multiple times overcommitting.
also seems like Rodgers outsmarted himself with 4 CBs. good to have some attacking help there, especially when your two most creative attacking talents are out.

quote:I really don't know what that was. His system really relies on having fullbacks push forward to stretch the field. This is why we had no width and it was just a clusterfrick in the middle of the field with people trying to backheel every pass in tight space

My god I guess we can cross the 4 CBs off the experimental list. Rodgers clearly has no idea what the best back 4 is yet. Would like to see 3 at the back once Johnson comes back.
Gerrard was complete fricking shite. I don't like the way Moses plays. Enrique. Sheesh. Sterling with dat touch. frick.

Admittedly, I don't know shite when it comes to soccer strategy, but Moses seemed to be the most active player on the pitch.
No results from his activity though.

Yeah, I think he's a very good signing. Always thought he played well when given minutes at Chelsea. He grew a lot as a player under Martinez at Wigan after breaking out as a 17 year old at palace.

For how poorly they looked, Sturridge was fouled in the box in the first half and if Sterling 's first touch was better we should have at least drew

Since we're playing the "if" game, if Mignolet wasn't such a beast, we could have been blown out.

Had some time to digest my anger...no, wait, its still there.
Thoughts -
Gerrards last two games have been his worst in my memory. He had some not good ones early last season, but nothing that poor.
I have no idea why Rodgers would start four CBs. My best guess is that with three games this week and Enrique apparently with a knick, he hoped to get by with this strategy for this game against Southhampton. Still not very smart, imo.
Our offense is disjointed. Aspas is not on the same page as anyone else. Sturridge is clearly not 100% with this effort. We had better hope that Suarez brings back some instant offense because we had nothing going for us without Coutinho.
Sterling needs to go out on loan. He is simply not good enough to play for a side trying to fight for top 4 yet. He brought nothing to the team during his minutes. Of course, we need some attacking player that would replace his spot in the rotation, so it won't happen.
Mignolet is simply awesome. I can't fault him for that goal at all, and he saved a few more that also were beyond normal saving expectations.
Moses - I'm not happy with his complete lack of vision and creativity, but I have to be happy with his effort and ability to take guys on and win. Simply put - he was our best offensive threat by far today.
I don't really know where to go from here. I say to just forget this game (except for a failed 4CB formation - remember no to use that again). But the Gerrard trend is troubling. The lack of offensive cohesion is troubling.
Hoping Suarez is a magical elixer....

I think we'll get ManUs best shot. Coming off the loss they had, you know they will be looking to prove something.
I don't know if we'll have a best shot. I don't think we can count on Henderson running a marathon three times this week to cover for Gerrard and Lucas. Suarez is a goal scorer and not the creative guy we so desperately need with Coutinho out.
Is Allen healthy yet? He may need to play this match.
We'll need some Suarez magic and a good performance from Mignolet. I doubt we'll be in control of the run of play.

RVP ruled out. This just got much easier.

i nearly did a spit take when i saw Rodgers' champing at the bit comment about Suarez. i don't like the guy, but that was a good one.

I know, it was awesome.

So what would be your ideal LFC formation if everyone is healthy and Suárez is playing?

-------------Mignolet
Johnson---Toure----Agger----Enrique
-------Lucas---------Gerrard
------------Hennderson
Suarez--------------------Coutinho
-----------Sturridge
Notes:
Johnson is our best option at RB by far
I suspect BR will try and figure out which of Agger and Sakho can play RCB and test them there. Either way I expect a decent bit of rotation amongst the CBs, especially if Skrytel plays the way he has been the last few weeks
Enrique holds to LB for now - he's steady in defense and offense. I don't know enough about Cissokho yet, but I expect him to rotate in some and be a sub for games we have a lead in.
Gerrard and Lucas must elevate their game from the last two weeks or else see some rotation or subbing off. Allen could play some in one of their places.
Front four are interchangable with movement - but Coutinho does move inside a lot with Enrique overlapping.
I expect Moses to come in a decent bit as a sub. Aspas too, if he can ever figure out how to play in the PL.

Easily LP's MVP so far ... he made ridiculous saves in those close 1-0 wins versus Stoke, Villa, and ManU. Without him it would be interesting to see where LP would be in the table so far.
