it's going to be impossible for them to consistently mount a challenge, especially considering many of their top players are likely to get sold off this summer (Costa, Koke, etc).

Simeone is a damn good coach. That first 11 is as good as any in the world. It's not like they won't be able to find replacements. If Simeone stays they will compete every couple of years, but that's a big if. And by the time Santi is done with his contract he'll be 32. I'm not worried about him looking past that time, since we treat over 30 players not named Rosicky pretty poorly.

I think you're underestimating the pull Simone has over some of the players, Koke especially. The great thing too is that his system doesn't depend on a single, or even multiple great players. Falcao left and everyone thought the run was over, but they just raised their level even higher.

Simone is up there with Klopp as far as I'm concerned. He is the key to their success and as long as he is there, I see them competing.
