Kudla has yet to win a main draw match at a Grand Slam, but the low-bouncing grass may be his best bet yet.

“I hit the ball pretty flat, so this court helps me more,” he said. “I can stay low, and I feel like I hit a pretty clean ball, so as long as I stay focused and the timing’s there. I mean, this surface really helps everybody if you hit the ball flat. But the timing’s got to be there, that’s huge.”

Kudla added that grass has always come naturally to him as a playing surface.

“It’s always been something that I really liked,” he said. “It’s tough the first week, but when you grow into it it helps a lot. But this year is definitely the best I’ve played.”
