My other option would be a ground up build
Surgeon action and bottom metal
Krieger or Douglas barrel
Timney trigger
McMillan stock
This will cost you well over $5000. Just the surgeon actions alone are over 2k. Then the barrel and action have to be squared on a lathe by a competent smith. Good news is mcmillian stocks dont have to be bedded. More bad news it will take you a hell of a long time to get the parts. I know this because I wanted to strip my 700 action and do the same thing, its the main reason I started taking smithing courses.
For a cheaper option you might consider what John Mccoy from 8541 tactical did. Took a 700 spss and dropped it into a bell and carleson stock and bedded the optic rails to the action. He is able to shoot 1/4 min groups with it.
If I were you Id drop the T3 action onto a shillen pre cut barrel or send it to hart and have them mount the action to the barrel, then drop the whole thing into a B&C stock. Its cheaper and faster and unless you can shoot 1/8 moa groups the surgeon action wont help you much.

These are links to youtube channels that may help. Good luck. I cant wait to see how your build turns out.

I personally think the two best things you get out of a tikka are the trigger and the barrel and wouldn't replace them, but that's just me.
It's a sako barrel and a sweeetttttttttt trigger.

frick, I don't remember the Surgeons costing that much. My boss and I laid it out the other day using 1400 as the actio cost and we came out to a little under 5k total with smith work.
Thanks for the links and suggestions

Youre correct. Brownells has the the surgeon tactical short action for $1461 without bottom metal. The bottom metal with detachable mag at $399. I must have gotten it confused with another action.
Edit for brownells catalogue. $5 all the gun porn your imigination can handle.

Jim, my parents pay for school and living expenses. All I pay for is gas and groceries. I work a 10/hr job with no taxes and I work a shitload. I save all my money so that's a plus

I'll admit to being COMPLETELY ignorant about this type of competitive shooting. Here's a good article for anyone else who's as uninformed as me.

How much would you charge if someone brought you a stripped AR15 lower and a LPK to assemble?

It annoys me sometimes when I start a thread on a forum and someone does what I going to do, but I'm doing it nevertheless.
What if you reversed your approach? Instead of buying what's basically a hunting rifle and having a second (expensive target shooting) stock, buy a factory F-class gun and have a second (inexpensive hunting stock).
Savage makes an F-Class factory gun that's received high praise.

When hunting season rolls around, swap out the target stock for an inexpensive Bell&Carlson. In the not to distant future, you'll prolly burn out the barrel on your target gun and need to rebarrel it. At that point, spend money on a premium barrel. In the meantime, you'll have had an opportunity to learn the basics of F-Class shooting w/o having to spend quite so much money. One could easily spend more money on a custom action alone than on the Savage complete gun. In addition, it may take a while for you to develope the necessary skills (including load development, wind doping, etc.) to be able to notice the difference between a $1400 action and a $1400 gun.....

Scope advice: don't get a range finding (mil dot type) reticle if it won't be in the front focal plane. If it's a plain duplex or some such, then a second focal plane reticle scope is fine.
I say this because I know that Zeiss scope comes with several reticles, some of them with mil-ranging / bullet drop compensation capabilities, and none of them are front focal plane, so they only work at one particular magnification...useless if you ask me.

Range from 800-1200 generally. Popular ones are the XLR Evolution, Whiskey 3, and AICS AX. The first 2 are in the thread, here is a picture of my boss R700 in an AICS.

I'd at least bring you some beer or something. Since I don't know anything about putting these things together, I'd rather a professional do it.

If you want to spend that much, Id look at the classifieds on snipershide. Plenty of ready to go custom built rifles for sale over there.
Also, if looking at the XLR, Id definitely go for the carbon version they have available now.
For barrels, nothing more than a Remington Varmint contour, everything else is heavy. Go ahead, ask me how I know.
