how the frick did you get that...from this...

but Nola probably is a better 'pitcher' than him at the moment.
I got that from watching them pitch last night...

Absolute greatest performance of pitching in college baseball. They were both great but Nola came out on top. Gray pitch nasty stuff but Nola don't have the velocity but can really hit the corners. Just WOW!!!

If you watched the game last night and came away thinking Gray gets more action on his fastball than Nola you are either blind or just absolutely no idea what you are looking at.
Nola had better location and got great movement. His movement on his FB didn't have the late movement that Gray's fastball had. You do realize it is possible to praise someone not wearing P&G, right?
As I did before, I'll just defer to the experts who provide MLB scouting reports instead of relying on a college baseball fan. LINK
It's really indisputable that Gray has more late life on his FB than Nola and has higher upside than Nola. It's also impossible to dispute that if both were eligible this year, that 30 out of 30 MLB teams would pick Gray.

Not taking anything away from Nola, but this NOla>Gray crap lets me know who knows baseball and who does not.
Yea it lets me know you don't know shite. There is more to pitching than just electric stuff. Greg Maddox had an average arm at best but was nails. Nola is not overpowering but knows how to pitch a game as well as anyone in college. That being said Gray does have a higher ceiling, but Nola out pitched him last night.

Greg maddux had electric stuff brah. A better comparison for Nola is Ian Kennedy.

Very true.

I don't know about that. OU's lineup is pretty terrible, while ours is pretty prolific. gotta take that into account.
You fricks act like we absolutely lit Gray up.

Once again you have gone full retard in a baseball thread.

Not at all, we hit his mistakes that was it.

I never questioned anything in that scouting report. I can easily compare the two without "wearing PnG". Gray has more top of the rotation stuff than Nola does. He pitched fantastic last night. He has the potential to be a dominant starter in the majr leagues and he can throw four pitches. However, his fastball does not have the run that Nola's does.

Meh. The comparison I was making was based on both having high 80s low 90s fastballs but great movement and outstanding control and placement.

That's all I'm saying, except that I disagree that Nola's fastball has more run. Read the scouting reports man. THe reason Gray is so high on everyone's board is because his FB has late life and he has effortless delivery to throw 96+.
That's taking nothing away from Nola who has great run on his FB, but sacrifices SIGNIFICANT velocity to do so. Nola sat at 87-88 last night on many of his fastballs. He hit 91 a few times, but for him to be a top 5 pick, he needs to sit at 91 the majority of his starts and occasionally touch 93-94.

I don't know, stache, no doubt Gray has nasty stuff. But Nola is a different pitcher. Much more reliant on hitting his spots. Nola's not going to gas it by you. When Nola is hitting his spots like he did tonight, I'd put him against any lineup in the country.

YOu need more than a FB and great control to come close to a Maddux comparison, but I can see why you thought that.
Ian Kennedy has great 2 seam movement and great command. He is pretty much Aaron Nola with less stamina.

I know that Gray has late life on his stuff. Believe me, I understand that. Nola's fastball runs a lot, especially when he subtracts from his fastball. Those ones at 87-88 were running all over the place on right handers last night. Nola has been throwing in the low 90's and he can certainly touch 94.
Gray has significantly more velocity and projects as a top of the rotation guy and has electric stuff, but you can't possibly think after last night that his FB runs more than Nola's.

Idk about you but his Nola's sliders right here looked big league ready.

Also, the thing about Nola is; compared to other pitchers at his level (which sets him apart IMO) is that he rarely misses up. Everything is kept low.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to reach the Rockies roster.

Living in Atl and being a big Braves fan I saw Maddux pitch hundreds of times. He hardly ever tried to strike out anyone. Once in a while he would try and freeze a batter with his fastball coming back over the left side of the plate against both righties and lefties. But he hardly ever tried to make guys miss. He once pitched and entire season without throwing a curve or slider than threw a slider to get a big strikeout in a playoff game.

I saw Gray pitch on tv last yr in a podunk game, mabe a couple of hundred fans in the stadium, and he was as intense then as he was last nite. He hit 100 mph + 10 times & the announcers were freaking out. He's a stud & I don't see where comparing him to anyone else is relevant to anything. We have Nola, OU has Gray, & there's no doubt neither team would swap one for the other. And trying to compare Nola or anyone to a HOF pitcher like Maddux is just dumb. Maddux's pitching ability was built on a career of pitching in the big leagues. These 2 kids are still just college kids playing in college level games, albet a high level of games.

I think most of us are just comparing their styles.
