What i am confused about is that this is a make or break year for monty and dell and they want to draft a guy who is more than likely not going to play this season. If we have another bad year, these two ( or at least monty) will be gone.

Who are they going to get at 6 that would have an impact? The only position where players are so bad that a Damian Lillard type rookie could have an impact on the team is Small Forward, but there is no Damian Lillard type of player at SF in the draft. They couldn't even get an instant impact player with the #1 pick unless they were ready to trade Gordon and open up a hole at SG.

Monty's tirades about his frustration with young guys at the end of the year said pretty clearly what the plan for next season was. They will use their cap space in FA and Trades to add veteran players that are ready to contribute. That's how they'll go from 27 wins to 38-45 wins.

I just read the article and it is a pretty good article with some fair points.

The remarks and statistics about his FT shooting is very encouraging. It explains the run of 50% he had and how that wasn't very accurate in reflecting his FT shooting.

That's probably my last obstacle from fully being on board with this pick. McNamara compares the Ginobli situation to stashing Saric, but we don't have the same luxury that they had at that time of being able to stash a player, we need help now. Other difference is, they were stashing a 2nd round player, we would be stashing a lottery pick.

While I don't think Saric will provide a huge impact (scoring mostly), parts of his game should be able to provide him with an opportunity to play right away, and make somewhat of an impact (passing, rebounding).
