Darian Claiborne - why no offer from LSU?

Just saw Claiborne was named Athlete of the Year by the Advocate. He was not only a good football player, but was outstanding in track and field. At 6'1" 225lbs, 4.7 in the 40, he will likely make a great inside linebacker.
What is the story on him with LSU? I know he is only 3 stars on Rivals, but so was Morris Claiborne and a host of other LSU stars in HS.
I hope he doesn't become a nemesis for LSU at Texas A&M!

Height was the major concern. He's one that I would have liked for us to offer. I think he's going to be a good one.

I remember height being a concern. Maybe speed too but not sure. Just another guy that LSU didn't think was worthy of a spot in the class.
edit: after watching a few highlights, don't think speed was an issue. Looks pretty fast.

We took all those LBs in the previous class then had Melvin Jones and K Beckwith ranked ahead of him.
He'll be a player for A&M, I look forward to many more "Why didn't LSU offer" threads over the next 4 years.

Simply put, the state of Louisiana is LOADED this year. Can be very selective on who we offer.

Him this past year and Otha Peters the year before. Happens every year. Wish the best for them, both are great players

We cant offer everyone in the state. Simply put.
The LBs we are after right now are Kenny Young and Clifton Garrett who are better.

Darian is not his listed 6'1" and the could bery well have been an issue. I remember seeing him in the airport and at 6 feet even I was slightly taller than him.

He played my high school in the playoffs last year. This guy is not 6'1. Hes about 5'10-5'11. Im guessing he weighed about 210.

You see the LB class we had that year?

Both Melvin Jones and Kendall Beckwith are better prospects. Duke Riley shot up the board when he put on a lot of size during his senior year and can still run like a safety.

Because LSU hates Port Allen and Blanchard is anti-LSU

Blanchard's not anti-LSU. He's anti-Frank Wilson.

So many good players in La this year and the scouts, recruiting sites, etc.. have all taken notice of La. Too bad we can't get them all!

Who the Eff does Blanchard think he is? He's not Coaching friggin West Monroe or Curtis, its dadgum Port Allen!! If he really cared about the kids he Coaches, he'd better have good relations with all Colleges, not to mention the Flagship U of his State.

All you clowns must be chummy with Blanchard.
Bottom Line is DC took the trip to Texas A&M and fell in love with the University and the Staff. Feels like he will get a better shot at playing time there and made the decision. Blanchard had nothing to do with where this kid ended up.

Don't see height being the issue if he's a legit 6'1".

I don't think it's legit. I've heard 5'11" but we've had other guys on the small side that played really well. Dat Nguyen was only 5'11" as well. Sometimes smaller guys can't get make the leap to the next level though and some coaches focus on it a lot more than others.
But it's a little moneyball like to me. It's too easy to write off guys due to height. It was the exact same knock on Patrick Lewis or Johnny Manziel. Not saying Claiborne will be that kind of player or anything, but sometimes too much is made of physical attributes imo. And many times these same kids don't get a shot in the pros even if they excel in college (Pat Lewis)
