Who is the better actor? This one is tough because I really love them both...but...I think Goodman has the better body of work and has a wider range of acting abilities.

Best Overall - Goodman
His work with the Coen Brothers alone gives him the win but other than Roseanne, most of his work has been in the area of drama.

Goodman has a lot more range than Candy ever did. Goodman has some great roles.
Candy was a great comedic actor but I don't see any similarities in their careers, other than being fat.

I think John Candy is one of the best comedic actors of all time. Goodman has a good body of work but some of his characters can be pretty weak.

I don't think that they are really comparable. Really apples to oranges. Their abilities overlap to some extent. However, I think that Goodman has more dramatic chops, and Candy is more of a classic comedic actor.

Goodman could have gotten Best Supporting Actor noms for Oh Brother and Barton Fink.
