Also found Sears and Roebuck 30-06 rounds. Leads points disolved. Paper shotgun shells and a ton of 22lr ammo.

Negative but a shite ton of those M2 rounds. Guess those were surplus army rounds?

That's awesome!
How long has it been locked up?

All that ammo is 30 plus years old. Boxes full. Had custom 38 special box of 50. 2 boxes of 50 357. 1 box of 50 38sw. bunch of 243 and 30-06 and 1000 rnds of 22lr. all is in good shpe except some of the 30-06 round lead tips are falling off.

sell all the ammo for as much $ as possible and transform cash to the baddest gun you can buy to remember your dad.

Definitely army surplus rounds, Lake City makes most of the small arms ammo for the army, it's just east of Kansas City

I am ignorant. How long does ammo like that last before it starts to "break down?"

Hey, I still have quite a few of those exact same Lake City boxes, except my rounds have black tips. 1960's vintage.
Great find!
As long as they weren't exposed to prolonged heat, they should function just fine.

Awesome
Just FYIs: M2 ball is a 150 grain bullet loaded to 2700 fps. The first lot of M2 Ball that Lake City loaded with non-corrosive primers was lot #13700, so it looks pretty good.
Let us know the headstamp date. Should say LC and a two number, year code. I'm curious.
Also, it's probably worth about a dollar a round. You should go buy a garand to shoot it with. They can be found $600-900

I bought Garands and a pile of the LC ammo 10 years ago. If properly sealed and stored the ammo will be good to shoot for many many more years. Garands are the tits!

I lifted my ammo when I was in the military (statute of limitations ).
The black tip stuff I mentioned is military issue armor piercing, so it's probably worth more than a buck a round.
I'll have to see what all old ammo I still have and take a pic of it tomorrow.
(I've had an old Garand for years...paid $190 in 1980)

I believe M2 is the armored piercing round.
However all the ones I've seen were black-tipped. Either way LC 30.06 is great ammo.

M2 is only armor piercing if it says so on the box or if it has the black tip

Those M2 rounds are perfect for the Garand!
ETA: The M1 Garand would make an excellent deer/hog gun IMO.
