The name is the first thing people see. How can you say it's not that important?

Because of branding. Google seemed like a stupid name for a search engine at first, now it's become a verb. I personally think Pelicans247 would have been a better choice, but the name really is irrelevant and it sounds like legal/team advice moved them in another direction. I would imagine most of their new users find them from forum links or web searches and eventually bookmarks. It's the content that draws people in and the content that brings them back, not the name. As long as the site looks halfway professional and the content is good the name doesn't matter.

it definitely matters when trying to draw new readers

say someone retweets a tweet from BourbonStShots on twitter...ok, maybe the tweet is about the Pelicans, but you see the name and just figure its not. Am i going to click the account and see what if its about?

Well, if im interested in basketball, probably not. Because i figure it has nothing to do with the pelicans. With the new team name and logo going into next year, a solid name would be the 1st thing on my list in order to draw new readers. You know people's interest will be high. A name like BourbonStShots is not going to hook them to the new rebranding of the Pelicans

shite, the avatar isnt even basketball related. Its a Bourbon St sign.
