While I am more than willing to shite on the way NBC has handled shows once they put them on the air, I do have to give them credit for taking more chances on riskier shows than most other networks.
The Office, My Name is Earl, Community, Chuck, Heroes, Scrubs, 30 Rock, P&R, all these were pretty unique concepts, and thus were a little risky to take on.
And yes, I know the Office was a remake of a British show and you want to say that it wasn't unique. It still was to an extent, and they bet on a barely known basic cable bit player to carry the show and it paid off huge for them.
I bet no one remembers the show Steve Carrell was on right before The Office.
