Unless you wanna wind up dead and turned into more crab bait, I wouldn't frick with t-Mikey's crabs.

so if he built a wooden reef structure
as long as the fish are free to swim in & out of it, they're not his. if the crabs (or fish) are in a trap, i'd say (and i think everyone else on this board would agree with me) that those fish are essentially owned by whoever owns the trap. do the oil rigs offshore own the fish under them, too? gosh they worked so hard to build those rigs, and now all these people are coming to potlick their rig spots. lol

You're talking about stealing crabs that have already been caught, which has absolutely nothing to do with the current argument. You are striving for a valid hypothetical but your crab story isn't it.

Interested in Chadwick's response to this.

can't believe the hypocrisy in your thoughts to identical scenarios.
If you think fishing under someone's dock on a public lake is an identical scenario to snorkeling under someone's pier and taking crabs out of their crab trap, something ain't clicking upstairs.
I enjoy a trollfest sometimes, so keep going.

those fish were caught and trained pets to stay by the pier. They were like cats. i mean cats are free to roam and walk around, doesn't mean they can be stolen .

Oh, so if old man was a bad arse too and goes running out with a shotgun blasting boats up and slicing throats, it makes it acceptable to follow etiquette rules.

Is this truly a "public" oxbow?
I guess it could be called a "semi private" oxbow, but anyone who has access to the oxbow has full rights to the waterway, and we have access to the waterway

I had this same type of situation happen while night fishing someone's pier lights. Dude came out his house yelling at us saying that we were trespassing and raising hell fishing his lights. We tried explaining to him what a public navigable waterway was and he then says, "well I'll just turn off my lights since you're not giving me money for the electricity" while living in a 500,000 dollar home.
Arter trying to explain to him that we weren't hurting anything and he kept yelling and screaming and went turn off his lights, we had enough and told him to go f*ck himself. We then trolled 20 yards to his neighbors lights and caught fish. Literally was bitching about us fishing on his lights that were costing him pennies and proceeded to hurt his fishing spot by turning them off and not making it a constant thing that they were on every night. Some people are just jackasses.

Guy starts out believing in his point. Somewhere along the way realizes he's wrong. Turns into troll to save face.

there is no right and wrong with etiquette.

Here chad I'll help.
I'm assuming this is along Red River. And if it is, and you can't reach it from the river, it's private property. Not public. Which means the old man is right and you are technically trespassing. You'd need to see the plots, but I'd be willing to bet he didn't build that dock on his neighbors property.
I think we all agree about trespassers on this board...

I've fished private oxbows on Red River my whole life. They're just another pond as far as the law is concerned if they are surrounded by private property and not owned by the local governments.

Public lake.
Un-boom roasted.
Un-boom roasted.

Ok, but if you have legal access to the oxbow, do you not have the right to fish the entire waterway? The guy does not own the oxbow.
