Also, with Pirates, you had Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, etc. While Depp was the obvious main draw, there was some other star power as well.

And the ending of Pirates 3 was purposely written to cut out Bloom and Knightley characters. While they weren't making Depp money Disney still didnt want to pay them.

Aside from RDJ, I'd bet good money Disney execs probably view the rest of the cast of Avengers in the same light. Either replaceable by another actor or they can write the characters out.

Hype alone helped 2 and 3 and it's obvious both movies blew. You're super-delusional if you can't see this. Not to mention the final box office numbers aren't in yet. Once word spreads that IM3 sucks arse, it'll die off quickly and if

Are you serious? IM3 will easily get to a billion and prob surpass it when its all said and done. IM3 does not suck arse no matter how many of you bitch about the movie. IM3 is at $711 million and it hasn't even been a week yet in the US. As much as you people bitch about the storyline, the majority of the people want to see: RDJ as Iron Man/Tony Stark, an awesome iron man suit(s), a great villian, awesome special effects, with at least a halfway decent plot. Thats what they are getting with Iron Man and alot of people will pay to see it. Its a summer blockbuster.

Except that Marvel guys will make the decision on that, not Disney. Disney is smart enough to stay out of great decisions makers way.

IMH, The Avengers doesn't need Iron Man after Avengers 2. If you want to kill him off, great Iron Patriot is right there and Tony's presence will always be felt. Cheadle has enough chops to carry scenes. Evans is better than most realize, plus The Avengers has always had a rotating cast and there are Oscar nominated actors across the board there(Ruffalo,Renner,ScarJo,Samuel L). Whatever new characters you bring in can help carry the load as well.

Just a little update on some things I've been reading regarding the MCU.

Ant Man is already needing a rewrite to make it fit the universe more. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it likely means a change to what Edgar Wright had planned. Still supposed to kick off phase 3.

Doctor Strange seems very likely to be a part of phase 3.

Daredevil's rights are back at Marvel.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are likely to be a part of Avengers 2, as long as XMen:DoFP doesn't use them first. It's basically a 'dibs' situation between the two franchises for those characters.

Zoe Saldana is Gamora in GotG. No one on the outside knows yet how GotG will fit into the universe, or even what time period/universe it's actually set in.

Just because it's a summer blockbuster doesn't mean it doesn't suck. It just means people like to go see movies in the summer.

IM3 doesnt suck. At all. Its a solid superhero action flick that will make a ton of money at the box office. Am I saying its better then the first one? No. But its not a bad movie at all.

Also Ghost Rider,Blade and Luke Cage are back at Marvel too.
Man if they could only buy back Spider-Man,FF and X-Men.

If the Spidey-Wolvie-IM-Cap-Thor-Ms.Marvel line up ever hit the big screen that would be fricking awesome.

rdjr. is worth every penny marvel pays him.

see this past iron man movie. he carried it himself being tony most of the movie and not in the suit.

i think most of the complaining is coming from evans hemsworth, and scarlett with rdjr. being their mouthpiece. i honestly think renner and ruffalo are just happy to be there.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I know that this was kind of what they were going for.

I imagine they didnt want to pay them for more b/c most people simply did not like their characters.

I agree.
It's a little different considering
1) you're talking about Orlando Bloom, who has zero charisma.
2) all the Avengers have their own franchises, which do well. They'd be stupid to let Hemmsworth go, they can always write Black Widow out for the time being.

If you think Disney is going to just write a blank check and be ok with having zero input, you are crazy.

Most people didnt like their characters as much as they did Jack Sparrow but there characters weren't hated.

Disney simply realized that the most important ingredient for future installments was Jack Sparrow.

If the money demands get to high I think Disney will apply this same logic to most of the Avengers cast.

Marvel still runs their shop and Disney is printing money because them. Kind of like Pixar.

Disney is more than happy to let them keep making the movies they want to make as long as they are successful. Marvel characters will always be a Marvel production, not a Walt Disney Pictures production like Tron, Alice etc.

Downey has appeared in a film that grossed over 500 million in each of the last 5 years. Let that sink in for a minute.
