personally think Jay-Z is overrated as a rapper.

I agree with Nas that Eminem destroyed him on Renegade.

this and i love Jay Z. although in fairness and imo both those guys are better lyricists than Jay Z. it's like saying magic johnson and larry bird are better than scottie pippen. well yeah.

that said i like kanye ok, but hovah is better.

I don't think there is an artist, ever, more overrated than Kanye West. He's decent and I casually like his stuff, but he is treated as if he is the second coming. The Pazz and Jop critic's poll, which is perhaps the best example of critical consensus, has name Kanye as the album of the year winner three times. Only Dylan has done, and that's because he got his two career achievement best ofs in the 90s and the 00s. Kanye did it in the span of 6 years.

Kanye could record himself taking a dump, and half of the critics in America would trip over themselves to declare it a masterpiece.

I just don't understand how this is a legitimate critique of Jay-Z. Who gives a shite that Em ripped him up on one track? Man, at that point in Em's career he was capable of destroying virtually ANYONE in the game. At least Jigga had the nuts to put Em on a track; look at who else had the balls to do the same thing during that time period. Exactly -- nobody. Every rapper has verses and tracks that are weak. That's one of Jay-Z's. Kanye has a ton of weak tracks too.
