Mayweather vs Guerrero

Just watched the weigh-in. Mayweather was unlike I've seen before, no trash talking and was visibly happy to be there and on this stage. Maybe the jail time changed him some he seemed very appreciative. Guerrero on the other hand was pumped up. I see mayweather winning a decision or by a late stoppage. Guerrero has never been on this stage and I think that will hurt him. He will try to press Floyd and get hit with some big counter shots.

Guerrero is a good guy but he isn't ready for this stage. Mayweather ain't Andre Berto

Guerrero is a dirty fighter, I like his chances of winning.

Mayweather will show once again that he is the best on the planet, and it hasn't been close for a decade.

Hope this is on justintv

Teddy Atlas thinks this fight will be close and I tend to agree with him but I can't give you a legit reason why. Just a gut feeling it will be a competitive fight.

Guerrero is a veteran the stage isn't going to bother him. If he can come out super aggressive and take Floyd's best punches early on without getting hurt. I think he has a real chance to wear Floyd out and dominate the 2nd half of the fight

Golden Boy always does a great job of hyping their fights. De La Hoya and Mayweather are marketing geniuses.
But Mayweather is gonna cruise tomorrow. Just look at Guerreros resume....there is no one on there even half the fighter Mayweather is.

Not a chance. Being aggressive against Floyd will get you knocked out. And no one in the sport trains like Floyd....he never wears down. He's also been at this weight for a long time.
147 is still new to Guerrero. And he's never been hit with counters like he will tomorrow. The only thing about Guerrero that will give Floyd trouble, at least early on, is that he's a southpaw. But Floyd and his team make adjustments better than anyone in the sport

quote:I have to agree. Unless Mayweather's time in prison has had some profound effect on him, I don't see it being close. Mayweather is not the type of fighter that ages suddenly. I will be watching because a Mayweather fight is a beautiful thing even when he dominates a totally outclassed opponent and we've only got like 1-3 of these left.

If Guerrero can come out aggressive take Floyd's punches and stay aggressive, he'll beat Floyd up in the 2nd half of the fight it would just be a matter of rounds when did the momentum change.
Floyd is amazing but he's 36 years old coming off a year lay off, he's not going to be able to fight a sharp 12 rounds vs an aggressive fighter that is just the reality. As for 147 Guerrero has had a full 24 rounds at the weight against solid C level guys who are bigger than Floyd

Miguel Cotto applied this same strategy you're speaking of and he got his arse whipped in the second half of the fight. Floyd has never worn down in the late rounds. He trains 365 days a year and never takes time off.

See my Cotto example above. The reality is that if you put pressure on Floyd, he counters you and embarrasses you. And last year, after a year-long layoff and being pressured by Cotto, it was Floyd who was cruising in the last 6 rounds and it was Cotto who was struggling to make it.
Floyd took 2008 off and has fought once in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. The layoffs are nothing new.

Floyd has fought and won titles at 154. Aydin has never been above 147 and Berto was at 154 briefly in his first 5 fights or so as a professional.

Floyd is a closer - He usually pulls away in the second half of fights.
I can see Guerrero winning some rounds if & when Mayweather fights like he did against Cotto (keeping his back on the ropes). That'll allow Guerrero to keep the fight in close quarters, much like his successful gameplan vs Berto. Mayweather WILL occasionally do that again, imo, and Guerrero will win a few rounds here and there just by activity alone during those rounds.
IMO I think this fight will go almost exactly like the Mayweather/Cotto fight. Guerrero wins the few rounds that Mayweather takes off, but Floyd wins majority of the last 3-4 rounds and takes a fairly comfortable UD.
I am pulling for Guerrero and hope he shocks the world. I just don't think he has the skill set to do so unless Floyd has drastically aged from his last fight.

quote:I meant Floyd as we know him. At his age and with the amount of time he takes b/w fights he won't be the same guy more than 3 fights from now.

Agreed. No one can assume he's the next Hopkins and will win titles at 48. I'd say he has 4-6 fights left at most.
He's indicated that he'll fight twice this year.....May and September.

Cotto was washed and has always faded late. Also Floyd wasn't coming off a year layoff.

Cotto and DLH were not real LMWs. Floyd has never fought a real LMW and thats not a knock on Floyd there is no reason for him to fight guys much bigger than him.
