To add to this be sure to save your Leve-quests for leveling up crafting. It will save you a ton of gil and time. For 1-10 just buy the materials and sell items, he total cost is minimal. You'll actually make a good bit of $$ from 10-20 by using leve's. At level 20 is when you will need to start farming materials since the market is so high atm.

I'm lvl 20 in armor, cloth, and leather and it may have taken 5-6 hours total play time combined. 3 days in real time due to server lockouts...
