Sometimes the cops can be pricks, and sometimes prima donna football stars can act immature and obnoxious. Not a big deal.

Agreed.

Not so much.

I work with police every chance I get, and do everything I can to help them do their basically impossible jobs. But we grant them a shite ton of authority, power, leeway and immunity (both legal and practical). I despise seeing that being flaunted or abused in any way. I like the fact that cops making an arrest with probable cause can shoot people who legitimately threaten them with death or bodily harm without worrying about getting screwed by the system. Incidents of cops "being pricks" that involve illegitimate arrests for resisting arrest mess that up. That pisses me off.

If Simon's story is true, that cop needs to lose his job and serve a little bit of time. False arrest, especially for resisting arrest, is seriously bad news.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle of these two stories.

The big deal is that we should expect a lot more from cops than we should from people with very little real-life experience. Cop should have been the cooler head, realized what was potentially at stake, and either just spoke to Simon about his behavior or left. Arresting him was childish.

Arrogant cops and athletes make a bad combination.
