#1: the 3-4 puts our best players on the field (Martez, Hicks, Gilette) to get pressure on the quarterback, something we rarely did last season.
#2: new DC that allows a more instinctive style of aggressive defensive attack instead of a scheme happy Spags defense that relied too much on a pass rush that never happened.
#3: new free agents at corner and the strength of the draft at linebacker and safety will upgrade us immediately.
Listen- we aren't going to be a top 5 defensive unit next year. but we don't have to be. Simply making small but significant adjustments and cracking the top 15 means we are instant super bowl contenders.
ETA: Damn it, Zoltan. Pretty much everything i said you already said.

In my opinion it was this change more than anything that will show significant improvement in the defense. Spags tried to make Harper a cover safety which is not his strong suit at all. He is an in the box tackling safety. This put more pressure on malcom Jenkins (which receives alot of criticism from on this board when actually the whole def sucked) and the corners. Spags was a terrible DC for us and didn't recognize this.
It is true, it can only get better and with putting freaks like martez Wilson, butler, and gallete on the field more you have to think it will improve.
