Being a die-hard LSU fan in Tennessee can be difficult but at least having lived in Baton Rouge 10 years and working in LSUs athletic department makes me a legitimate fan. It's sickening to see all the so-called Bama fans here that have never lived or been to the state of Alabama being self-proclaimed fans. I love asking them what year they graduated from Bama or what part of Alabama did you live. Just curious if others are running into the same problem. I guess it shouldn't bother me because it makes them look like idiots.

Alot of Louisiana has envy for LSU so they attach to Bama because its like seeing the bully get beat by a bigger bully. It's all pretty dumb bc as soon as Saban retires Bama will go back to being Bama post Bear. Average.

There are a ton of Bama fans in Tenn already. Add the enormous sidewalk fanbase of Bama and it just gets out of hand.

No different than the ND and Miami obsession in the 80s or FSU obsession of the 90s

Yes. I was just at the Wal-Mart neighborhood market on highland rd less than a mile from LSU today and I saw an SUV in the parking lot with a big Alabama script A in the back window. It makes me sick

I had no association with LSU until I attended it and I still considered myself a fan.

Especially here in BR. There is not a week that goes by that I don't see a gump. I travel the same streets in this town and this happens

You'd be surprised how many kids I went to high school with that didn't go to LSU, and are now Bama "fans." I find Tulane kids to be the worst.

Gump in Ruth Chris last week was coming into the bathroom with a Bama cap on (yes at Ruth Chris). Anyway, I held the door open for him and when he passed he said thanks and I said "no problem, Roll Tigers"

I have never lived in Baton Rouge.
Attended LSU or even been there.
I'm a LSU fan, who lives in Tennessee.
Because my uncle, who got me into football as a kid use to live in Louisiana. And thats who he pulled for, so when we watched football, as a 4/5 year old kid seeing him get so into it got me into it, And i have been since. You dont just have to live there or attend to be a legit fan.

This, but to be a legit, "true" fan, you have to have been a long time fan, or have family involvement in some way with that university. That's jmo.

Many in this state assume bandwagon status for anyone in this state that pulls for a team.other than LSU. It's not just on message boards where you can act like a horses behind in anonymity. People obviously are not as in Your face about it in person as here but it clearly bothers people in this. state more than any other state in the southeast I have been to. It has been that way even as a child growing up in the 80's that it really infuriated other kids my age. Seems rather silly to me to be upset with someone based on the college football team they pull for and whether they attended that school. Tons of LSU sidewalk fans just not as many nationally as other schools despite their success. Thanks to those sidewalk fans some of you complain about, tiger stadium is filled beyond seating capacity. Just food for thought when you are complaining about sidewalks or bandwagon fans.

All of these fans change their colors based on who is winning. It's an Ego "hey look at me" thing. A lot of uneducated people flock to any team that wins. If we go on a several year run you will see lots of LSU and very little anyone else.

Nashville is a very diverse sports city for being in Tennessee. 7 years ago everything was orange. Now Vanderbilt colors are all over town.

Honestly, this is so poorly written I can barely find structure in your argument. However, as someone who doesn't hide behind his screen name, I feel it is appropriately my turn to speak. These bandwagon sidewalk fans who have no logical reason to cheer for UA wear it on their sleeve- especially around here. Its annoying but it is the way it is, and it won't change. It just seems as though it is a horrible reason to become a fan of a team because you want to be a part of the city's counter-culture (and I don't mean the fro-yo shop).

Bottom line is, you can be a Bama fan all you want; just dont expect my respect as a fan unless you can give a legitimate reason as to why. Until then....

I see more gumps in Nashville than I do in Tennessee Vol fans...I never saw many gumps in Louisiana(the ones I did see looked like complete redneck trash), but theyre all over Tennessee. You'd think they were the home state team. Tuscaloosa is almost the same distance to Nashville as Knoxville though
