Yeah, you're right. I think I'll put "hard day's night" on repeat for a few hours. Well...either that, or I'll jab myself in the eye with a fork.
One or the other.

Just curious, do you like any Beatles?

There are even smaller venues that pull in quality acts as well Troubadour, Bowery Ballroom, Schubas, Fox Theatre to name a few.

Jimi Hendrix is NOT the greatest guitarist of all time
Duane Allman was miles ahead of him

Was it written in Spanish?

There are a handful of Beatles songs that I think are okay. For example, Hey Jude is, imho, a good but nto great song.
But I'm not kidding or trolling when I say that I don't think any of their songs are great. I really don't.
I think Imagine would be their best song if it were a Beatles song.

you're really splitting hairs here. In a world of great guitar players they are among the greats that are famous, but you could make arguments for 1000 different guitar players, most you've never even heard yet.

I just checked their website. 930 gets better acts.
I just checked Troubadour. 930 gets better acts.
I've never heard of the other two, so I'll assume it's the same deal.
ETA: don't take my word for it: LINK /
ETAA: FWIW, there are people who give out venue awards and 930 club was 2012 nightclub venue of the year. It's won the award several times. This is just for the US, I believe.

Agreed but among the ones that are consistently in that "elite" group jimi is 2nd at best and Im more inclined to place him 3rd or 4th and that's an unpopular opinion

Jimi was the greatest innovator of his era. He did things with the guitar that had never even been dreamed of before. Yes, you can make a case for Duane as being technically better (although it would be hard) but no one before or since has had the influence on style of play or innovation that Jimi did.

No one has ever played a slide like Duane before or since and then you have to look at his sheer volume of work and his flexibility among genres.
Jimi was a better rock star but Duane was easily the better musician

used to be strictly an old man burnout bar, unil some guys took it over on tues nites. the idea was a free, all local music night. people were just starting bands all the time once it started to get going. for two or three years it was a pretty amazing place. tues nite was always packed, everyone interested in some other friends band, lots of one-off kinds of shows. even if it was your first show, playing on tues meant you had a full bar to play to. lotta rock, punk, and noise bands. started expanding, booking better shows, lots of acts traveling through on their way to/from SXSW.
then a crew from conway bought the bar and the americana scene hit. they really spruced the place up, made it a legit venue, not just some word of mouth dive. i miss the dingy old tues nites though.

Jimi was the single greatest most creative innovator of rock and roll music to ever come along IMO.
duane was a better overall musician though.

That's all I was trying to say.
I don't believe that there is a single lick, passage or phrase that Jimi could pull off that Duane couldn't. There's a lot of shite Duane did that I think would leave Jimi scratching his head.
The difference is Duane took his influences and tried to build like most do. Jimi too his influences and idols and wanted to fricking shatter them and make people forget about them.
Jimi was a greater innovator no doubt but remember Duane also broke a few barriers himself.
He was the first person to play jazz music with a rock feel. Everyone else just tried to make rock n roll sound jazzy. I also think that if Duane lived 5-6 more years my statement wouldn't be nearly as controversial.
Just imagine how much Duane living just half a decade longer would've changed everything we know about the history of rock music....

You could say the exact same thing about Hendrix. Dude is already the GOAT. Who knows what he would have done later.
