Do you not understand the issue here?

If you start fishing in April. That's one license that ends June 30. Then you have to buy another. Two fishing licenses. It would be better to have the license last from Jan 1 to Dec 31 because no matter when you start fishing, there isn't a deadline in the middle of the fishing season that forces you to get another.

The real issue is that the States fiscal year runs July 1-June 30th. Hence the weird expiration date, maybe you can convince the legislature to tackle this issue instead of mandatory dog crates in trucks. I bought lifetime license in 1995 and haven't regretted it one time. Just wish I didn't have to go in for the HIP tag and the Deer Stamps.

And no matter when you do it you stand the chance to get screwed. What about all the guys that fish in the fall?

You end up in the same place. And spend the exact same amount of money in a lifetime. You really don't spend 30 for a 'season'.

1 year from date of purchase is a decent alternative.

But I can get a license online, by phone, or at just about any gas station. So I just don't see that big of an issue, it costs the same, it isn't an inconvenience.
