How would he be able to stop Zod? It is obvious that somehow Zod gets stopped because he is in chains during the trailer.

Kal-El parents supposedly are going to decide to have their child naturally so that he can decide for himself what he becomes, which apparently will be a violation of either Kryptonian law, or at the very least, will be looked at as an abomination by some Kryptonians like Zod.
