It's also funny how people say the ending sucked, when in actuality, that wasn't the original ending. Tarantino changed his mind and went back to his trailer and wrote up a new ending, which was the one seen in theaters.
What does it mater if he changed his mind or not. This was the ending we got and it wasn't very good.

I'm not disagreeing, just saying that it wasn't the original.

BEWARE SPOILERS
I had a problem with that on first viewing. But after multiple viewings its one of the underrated parts to me
It was Django for that fews seconds doing what he always wanted to do....show off in front of his girl. Again, maybe thats me. But by the 3rd or 4th viewing "I got it". Also like at the last second of them riding and seeing Broomhilda pick up the shotgun.

I really don't care for the VERY end, with the horse prance, etc. Just seemed corny and unnecessary.

In the original script, the horse didn't do the prance; he simply taught it how to bow its head like Fritz. That was enough for me.

There was also no "Timmy" in this movie like there was in the script

After watching this, I realized how much I hate Samuel L. Jackson. He's so fricking annoying. GREAT movie regardless though.

I thought it was his best role in years.

It's ok. About 30 mins too long. Not rewatchable IMO.

He's just so annoying to me, but I digress. The ending was badass IMHO. Django is such a frickin badass
Eta: SLJ wasn't bad per say, I just don't care for him playing the n***** in all of these movies.

I
I get what you're saying about SLJ. But thats what makes the character so complex. He's this loud buffoon in front of Candie and his friends. Its how he gains power, access and also fools people into thinking he's harmless. Then behind closed doors in the library.....he's the true *villain*. Candie was badass villain as well...but its Stephen who runs the show. Calvin is just the front. I thought it was great writing by QT.
*notice the Cane drop at the very end*
I kinda wish he told a story about being a quickdraw is his younger days (give a short monologue how the master taught him how to use a gun to frighten the slaves years ago or maybe something else) and then a "duel" between him and Django at the end.
But overall...yes its a badass ending.

Finally...someone else who gets it. Should have ended the movie after the final Leo scenes. The next 30 minutes was totally pointless.

Did anyone else have a problem with Shultz's plan to get rescue Hildie?
Candie has a slave that speaks German which would be a novelty to anyone else but an actual German. Schultz purcahsing her from Candie (above market value as she is a specialty item)is completely reasonable. The whole "farmer won't sell you his horse so you offer to buy his farm as a distraction" is obviously necessary as a plot vehicle but in reality is fairly stupid. Candie, like any other slave owner, would've sold her for the right price.

quote:Inglorious basterds was much better. But that doesn't disqualify Django from being a great movie.
I thought Inglorious Basterds was better, but that's just me.

It's scheduled to be here tomorrow from Netflix.
Same here so Netflix has at least two of em.
I enjoyed Django more than any other movie over the last several years. Inglourious Basterds may or may not hold up better in the long run but I'm pumped about watching it again tonight.
