Never watched it before. Is it worth checking out?

Completely different. Definitely check out the Showtime one. If you like Game of Thrones, Dexter, or the production value of the premium shows in general, it's definitely worth a shot. If you happen to have a little background in Renaissance Italy, that's a plus. Even if you don't know anything about it, the show has a great cast and is very well done.

I only saw this version as well. They only made that one season for that one correct? I wish there were more seasons to watch for that one.

Since this thread was asking whether to start the series, I'd edit out those plot details.
Although I'd be all for a spoilers thread if other people want to discuss whats happened so far. I still haven't seen all of season 1 since Shotime is so picky about what they make available on demand, but I couldn't resist watching all of season 2 when it became available.

frick it. Show been out, this is the 3rd season. If he wanted a spoiler free thread, just say so in the thread title. I changed my mind for the purists out there.

quote:I do love game of thrones and haven't started Dexter even though I plan on it once I run out of shows I'm currently watching but yeah I'll have to check it out because it's a very interesting time period of history IMO. There were plenty of times while watching the Netflix version that I said to my self wow that must have been just such an odd time to live in.

quote:Yeah I believe there is only one season although I haven't searched much. I agree it is pretty well done and very gruesome and entertaining. Must have just not been popular enough to compete with the showtime one

I've only seen the first season but enjoyed it.

Netflix doesn't allow nonmembers to search, so I'm not sure if I was talking about the same old TV series as y'all are. Anyone know what year the netflix series is from?

I just finished season 2 last month, i thought it was ok. I really enjoyed the first season.

quote:It says it was released in 2011 and only has one season. It's called Borgia: Faith and Fear. Someone told me it's a netflix original like House of Cards and there is only one season so I'm assuming it got canceled. Pretty entertaining if you have netflix and are completely out of stuff to watch

The Showtime version is a very good show. Season 3 just started.

If you want to watch a much better series on the Borgias the European effort is now on Netflix.
John Doman as Alexander XI makes Jeremy Irons look downright anemic. In fact, the acting in general is superior. While historical accuracy, when in comes to the Borgias, has always been sketchy this version captures the essence of Borgia depravity in a way the Showtime series fails to produce.

Netflix added another 12 episodes to bring the total to 24
