Personally I like when LSU plays UF and UGA bc it provides for a high quality game. The 2011 season was great in that they beat so many good teams.
It sure was...but you know why it was so great? Because it was an anomaly to make it through a gauntlet like that. In other words, when teams play schedules like that, even when they are great, they don't win them all, and therefore do not play in the big game.
The question then becomes...based on percentages...would you rather LSU play the most entertaining schedule, or a schedule which puts them in the best position to play for championships? Despite what happened in 2011, that is almost never possible with both. Put another way, do you think BAMA fans would trade us our schedule in 2011, 2012 and 2013 so that they could have played a more challenging schedule, or do you think they'd rather keep the titles?

If you want to be the best then you have to beat the best.
While this makes a neat bumper-sticker, it just isn't true. See: 2011. BAMA split with LSU and avoided UGA entirely in 2011...seems the consensus was they were the best. They managed that with a far shittier schedule than LSU.

This could be a possible reason.
They may have better politics by proximity.
Birmingham is less than an hour from Tuscaloosa.
Alabama has 24 SEC Championships in 80 years, while competing with at least nine other schools for the majority of that time (1990).
