Has Cam changed Les' philosophy. (ESPN interview)

Herbstreit and Fowler were interviewing the Hat today and for the first time that I've ever heard, when asked about the offense instead of saying we will run the ball and throw when we can, he said we will throw the ball and then run the ball when we need to. Small thing I know but just food for thought.

Is that actually what he said, or are you paraphrasing?

has to be paraphrasing. there was not a single miles-ism in that OP. I fail to believe he spoke without one.

He also doesn't have 6 in the stable anymore.

I dont think that has anything to do with it. We have enough good RBs this year and we haven't always been 6 deep like last year.
Seems Miles is ready to give some slack on the LSU offensive leash.

His philosophy just like most coaches is to play to your strengths. He's never been opposed to opening it up with the pass (just look at Ok St. and first few years here) he just didn't feel comfortable doing it or we weren't able to recently.

No reason to believe major changes will be made until we see them. I do believe Cam is a big upgrade and the offense will improve. The question is do we go from bad to average or bad to good or even great.

His exact words were that we will play differently on offense and our opponents will have to be responsible for that (there's your Les'ism) and that we will still do the things we do. We will throw it, have ball security, and rush it when we NEED to.
Said all of this with a cat that ate the canary grin.

Offense wasnt bad in 11. So if we can just be a lil better it will go a long ways.

Contrary to popular belief Les' philosophy adapts with the strengths of the team. You dont get a number 1 draft pick and 2 first round WRs in one draft if you dont throw the ball. Also had another 1st round draft choice back at okie state. QB play and WR play have been inconsistent over the past few years to put it mildly. Meanwhile we had studs such as ridley Ware Blue etc at RB.

Thanks. Sounds pretty ambiguous to me, at least. Translated into standard English, I believe he is claiming that LSU will have a more developed, consistent passing game and that opposing defenses will have to account for that new dimension of our offense ("we will play differently on offense and our opponents will have to be responsible for that"). However, we will still run the ball between to the tackles to maximize time of possession and achieve balance ("we will still do the things we do. We will throw it, have ball security, and rush it when we NEED to"). My interpretation, any way.

The offense has changed from one oc to the next. Also from the players on the team. We threw it way more last year than we did from 09-11. 08 we threw it cus we trailed a lot.

I just dont think this is the case. I also dont believe that is the right attitude. The success of the running game is vital and has been a strength for a long time.
The problem most of the time has not been the play type selection, it has been the inefficiency in the passing game. LSU is at its best when it runs 60-70 plays, meaning that it is able to run the ball at will. I dont think the answer is throwing it 30+ times/game. We need to focus on receivers running crisp routes, no drops, protecting the QB, and extending drives. I dont believe simply throwing it more is the answer. The problem runs deeper than that.

Never believe what Les Miles says in spring or fall practice. Believe what he does on game day. We've heard these same things from Les for a number of years now.

it was more like we run when we want and can throw when we want...I didn't hear any allusion to a throw first offense and I seriously doubt that ever changes

The offense was still bad in 2011. We were one dimensional and the SEC sucked. Teams with good defenses pretty much shut us down, the defense and special teams maximized their potential to help the offense.

Seriously?
Besides Bama. Really? Wow...what people believe and post on here...wow.

Of course he hasn't. I dont know what LSU football some have watched since 05 for them to think Miles will not throw the ball anytime he thinks throwing it will be productive.
Hell, all you have to do is look at the end of 07 Auburn game to figure that out. We threw it in 08 all over the field. We even threw it at the end of last season....30 times vs. A&M, 35 vs. Bama, 37 vs. Miss., 30 vs. Miss St.
Mett just has to get more consistent. We can't have throws sailing 5 yds over a R's head or 5 yds away from them when its a 10 yd pass as in the last part of the bowl game.
That's where I hope Mett/Cam shine.

The SEC "sucked"?
The SEC had 4 teams in the Top 9.
May I have a drag on your joint.
